Hello everyone,
I have been using my custom built PC with a MSI GeForce GTX 970 for a little over a month now and it had been working very well running games at max graphics at 60 FPS just fine. Suddenly one day it started under-performing a lot now only getting around 20FPS and my PC in general lagging a lot more. After some time on the forums everyone i've talked to have come to the conclusion that my CPU is bottlenecking the 970 and that I should get a new one. I am still a bit confused still for two reasons; one being that the problem only started a month after using it for no apparent reason, and two being that my CPU is an Intel Core i5-4690 which should work find as I have done other research and a lot of people say that it and worse can handle a 970.

If there is a probability of there being other problems please say, and if you have any answers to the two reasons i'm confused I would appreciate it.

The main reason I have posted this is to ask for the best other options there are for a CPU that can pair well with a 970 and will not bottleneck it in the future.

Thank you.

I deleted everything to do with Nvidia, reinstalled it all and got the drivers again but it didn't work still have the same problem.

But why would it just randomly happen? It had been working perfectly for a whole month and then one day it's just screwed itself! I'm very confused, I only wish there were a simpler more clear answer, but then I guess there hardly ever is with PC's! xD

Agreed, especially if I'm on the other side of the globe and can really look at it haha.
Well you never know, maybe power surge, overheated, it can be anything.

Well, I'll keep trying, is there any way to trouble shoot individual parts such as the GPU and CPU other than trying them in a friends PC to see if the same problem is consistent on both PC's? I'm guessing no or you would have suggested it. xD

The problem ended up being some malware which used up all of my CPU's usage even though I had virus protection installed!

Tip: Don't use Norton...

Also, thanks to everyone that tried to help especially Swinginking!
