Hey all, I'm new to the forums, though I've been reading posts for a month or two, and I've got the itch for some new computer equipment. Seeing as I've recently found the means (read : money) to buy a great system, I thought I'd get some advice on these forums. Any help would be appreciated.

Either lend me suggestions on my thoughts for the system, or build the best system you can for $3000. Both would be of immense help to me.

Heres what I'm thinking (And all this is by no means definate)

CPU : FX-53

Motherboard : The Asus A8V deluxe looks good, but this is where I'm most open to suggestions.

Graphics Card : I'm thinking of sticking to my 9800 pro (256 MB) or getting the latest ATI card. May seem like a waste to a lot of you, but I have my reasons for debating getting a new card.I'll listen to anything anyone is willing to say though. I'm tolled the x800xt is better than nvidia's latest offereing for my purposes(mainly HL2), any thoughts on this?

RAM : I'm thining 2 sticks of 512 to allow for the dual channeling. Haven't decided on the brand or type yet.

Everything else I'll decide once I'm set on my mother board and graphics card.

Like I said before, any input is mroe than welcome. Thanks in advance.

Graphics card is fine
Ram = Crucial Ballistix PC3200
The rest?

Abit IS7 - 3.0C @ 3.6ghz - Mushkin PC4000 (2 X 512) - Sapphire 9800Pro - TT 420 watt Pure Power
Samsung 120gb ATA-100 - Maxtor 40gb ATA - 100
Sony DRU-510A - Yellowtail Merlot

Get A64 3800+. It will save you some money without any noticable performance loss.

For mobo I recommend MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum

I'll look into the ram. The problem is, where I live (United Arab Emirates) its really hard to get a good selection of computer parts. I'm guessing they'll have a major RAM producer like crucial though. would it be worth it to get better than PC3200? As for the rest of my computer I'm scourging this city looking for the best parts I can get my greedy hands on. So far I'm leaning towards a Western Digital HD 7200rpm (60GB, I don't think I'll need anymore than that).

As for a case, I'm wondering what kind of power supply I should be aiming for. Would 350 be sufficient?

I'm going to get the first decent compatible heatsink/fan I can find, and any DVD RW (not particualr about any brand)

Thanks for the help.

Spitfire_x86 :
MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum, I'll definatley check that out. Anyone know of any links where I can find a direct head to head comparison of compatible motherboards for the Fx-53? That would help a lot. As for getting the 3800+, I thought about that for a while, but decided against it. I'm looking to go all out on the motherboard/ram/video card(If I don't use my own). Once again, I appreciate the help.

Wow, I thought you could buy ANYTHING in UAE! There's certainly enough wealth there to drive importers!

Haha, yeah youd think so wouldn't you.I had a look and I've found plenty of pc3200 ram, crucial amongst the brands. I'll probably end up going for that.Still Undecided about the rest though.

UAE baby!! Dubai rules, or at least my friend Ashish told me many times while we were toiling away in Oklahoma.

Haha yeah, I love it here, asides from the fact that good computer hardware is so hard to find. Got to love any place with plenty of beaches.
