A New Ryzen Rig

Hey there,

my name is Cengiz. I am 40 years old and new here. I want to be able to play my beloved Alpha Game Star Citizen and in the future Squadron 42.

I want to make me a new gaming rig. I sorted the following to be future proof for the next 5 years cause my oldest will go to Kindergarden next year

Asus ROG CROSSHAIR VII MB
Ryzen 7 2700x CPU
Sapphire Nitro+ Rx Vega 64 GPU
Bequiet Dark Power 11 1200 Watt PSU

These components are in my possession right now.

Next step would be

Bequiet Dark Base Pro 900 Case
Bequiet Silent Loop 360 AiO
DDR4 3000 Kingston Predator 64 GB
Samsung Evo 970 M.2 SSD
Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut Paste

What do you girls/guys think about that system?

Maybe I will upgrade a second GPU hence that powerful PSU. Also I want to do a mild OC.

I have a few questions

I would like to know if anyone have a RAM that is not in the QVL list of the Crosshair? I really like the Dominator Platinum but they are not listed.

Do I need something else?

From my old system I am covered with 2 SSDs and 2 HDDs and PWM Fans. Also I was gifted with an Optane SSD.

Thanks in advance for your responses.

Cengiz

How much are you looking to spend overall?

I will say that the extra thermal paste and delidding process isn't really necessary - it's something that is extremely risky and even if you do get it to produce results, you may not get the results you think you are going to get. Delidding has lots of risks associated with it - and among other things, will automatically void your warranty. Should you choose to do so, you are on your own for support if something goes wrong.

As far as RAM goes as long as the voltages match you should be good. QVLs are really just guidelines for manufacturers to follow, they don't have the time or resources to test every part out there to make sure its' compatible, so they're really just a checkpoint for matching specifications. The QVL is a good measure but if the RAM isn't listed, as long as it meets the board specifications you should be fine.

Hey there,

thanks for the fast answer.

I dont want to delide the CPU. I want to get the paste on the spreader and the AiO above.

I didn't thought about overall spending. I would say around 2500 to 3000 Euros would be my line.

You have anything which I didn't thought of?

I even want to buy me customs cable. Lol.

Will be my last build for the next 10 years.

Cheers

I agree with G-Unit here. The thermal compound that comes with that Be Quiet Cooler is pretty good, so you'd be spending your money needlessly on that Kryonaut paste. What resolution/monitor are you gaming with? The Vega 64 is quite the powerhouse when it comes to gaming, so unless you're going to be pushing 4K on higher settings, a second 64 probably isn't in order, especially considering that Navi is on the way. 64 GB of DDR4 is a ridiculous amount for your use case, but if you're going overkill, more power to ya! Personally, I'd stick with going for 32 GB of RAM.

What 2 SSDs are coming from your system? People like to tote the 970 Evo as a really fast SSD, but it's really just a minor step up if you already have a decent SSD. As for the QVL, I'm a guy who likes to stick to the book. Sure, you can match the specs with your motherboard manufacturer, but I just don't want the risk of dealing with compatibility issues. It's really up to you.

Hey there,

I want to game in 4k. Especially Star Citizen looks absolutely brilliant in 4K.

That Thermal Paste was only 8 Euros.

The other 2 SSDs are a Samsung Evo 950 & 960, each with 250 GB

Also the Optane was superfast on my old system, also AMD. So the full power isn't working in AMD System. Also 250 GB.

About the RAM. I know it's overkill. Some of you guys having Kingston HyperX Predator. Are they good? Have they the Samsung B-Dies which I heard where absolutely brilliant.

Cheers

It's still a waste of money no matter how much it costs. Most high end coolers include stuff that's just as good if not better than that.

I dont want to delide the CPU. I want to get the paste on the spreader and the AiO above.

Then I guess I don't get the purchase of the Grizzly paste. The only reason you'd buy that is if you are delidding, since it's a specialty paste that is aimed at people who delid CPUs.
