a question about fps

How do you calculate the theoretical fps limit that a graphics card can achieve? I mean based on the memory bandwith, GPU performance, game resolution, and any other variables that would apply. You need to know specific info about the game your playing right?
Thanks

I meant mathematically. just a curiousity.

oh yeah and how do i run benchmark for a specific game?

no way to do that. some cards (diff. chip) do very same on paper, but the real stuff...
try grab some tech. data off from both Nvidia and ATi website to compare the same grade (on paper) product.
and browse around tomshardware to looking for the relative benchmarks.

and, if ppl can do simple math about this, why benchmarks?

<font color=orange>What do you think? </font color=orange>

I know the numbers would not have any real world value, but i would just like to able to prove my friend wrong when he says he's getting something like 100fps at 1600X1200X32 on his radeon 32 ddr. And he says it is all due to his PIII 1gig and 512 megs of ram. I dont know how he gets those numbers but he's a idiot and i want to prove it. He wont accept benchmarks on this site or others. So i need to show him that his card is not capable of those kinds of numbers.

I remember doing something similar in quake 2--if you run a normal timerefresh, you would get like 220fps. However, if you looked at the ground for a timerefresh, your FPS would jump to about 800=). Make sure yer bud's not looking at the ground for his FPS reading so you can be sure that his Gaydeon 32 isn't just rendering one tiny little textured tile of the floor=)

do not forget every different game sues different amount of textures details etc, due to this when you theoretically count the fps, if there are such a thing, then you also need to include the textures etc in the calculation or else not representative of the real world posibility.

Your friend could also be playing all low details at 160081200832bit

no matter what, you're a smart asre, ignore him.

Best regards

the looking at the floor idea seems intersesting. During break i'm going to make him run a rela benchmark in front of my own eyes

and the thing about including the textures, i kind of figured it would be impossible to calculate the fps on paper cause those fugiures are constantly changing.
Thanks for the info
