Well, after spending half my day searching google and developing a migraine, I thought I'd reach out for help. Here are my system specs:

APU : A6-7400K
RAM: 4 GB 1600mHz
Motherboard: GA-F2A88XN-WIFI
OS: Windows 8.1
PSU: Silverstone SFX
Using an HDTV for a monitor

The display is working, although I notice the resolution looks very sketchy. It says 1080p but not to my eyes, text is all distorted. When starting up a game like minecraft or gravitybone, I get an error message about not being about not detecting hardware acceleration, here is a screenshot from gravitybone:

When playing a new game like Among the Sleep, the only way I can even get it too run at ~1FPS is by putting all settings on low and resolution at 480p. This APU should be at least capable of handling these games on low settings so I knew something was wrong.

My monitor shows as "Generic Monitor". I've uninstalled and then reinstall Catalyst driver software (trying versions 13.12 through the latest beta version) with and without CCC about a dozen times with no luck. It seems to not install the video card drivers. In device manager it shows "Microsoft Basic Display Adapter" as the only display driver. I think it should say "Radeon R5 Series" or likewise. I've tried updating the driver manually but it wont recognize any other hardware. CPU-Z shows the basic display adapter aswell under the graphic section. Here is a screenshot summarizing all of this:

I have no idea what could be causing this now. I feel like Ive tried everything that others have tried on this problem. The only amazon review for this APU mentions downloading drivers from AMD made games playable when they werent before. He doesn't mention where to get these though, and it seems I've tried every driver.

I'm at my wits end, anybody have any ideas? Please! Built this computer for a friend and so far hes super dissapointed in it. I dont know if it's related but I am also not able to play sound through HDMI (shows not plugged in in playback devices).

I'm using Windows 8.1. I am thinking of downgrading to Windows 7 to see if that fixes it but wanted to rule out every other possibility before going through that struggle.

PSU is a Silverstone SFX 500w 80+ Bronze

I dont know but it also shows my CPU as an Athlon 64 with 2GB RAM which is obviously wrong too., I was mainly showing the screenshot to show that it's not detecting hardware acceleration/OpenGL which I also get in minecraft. Heres what I get in minecraft:

1) Your scaling issues are because you are using an HDTV and haven't got that setup correctly. It's simple on a monitor but tricker on an HDTV. You need to go into the HDTV section, make sure you have 1080p 60Hz or whatever selected and may not to fix overscan.

2) Not sure how to fix your driver issue. As mentioned, make sure the MOTHERBOARD drivers get installed as well.

3) I noticed you have only 4GB which may be an issue in two ways:
a) If it's a single stick you may be bottlenecking the GPU (not the reason for your current low performance though)

b) The iGPU shares the DDR3 memory so if you use 1GB then Windows and a game only have 3GB between them.

You may wish to consider a second, identical stick if possible.

Yup, I had problems earlier where it was idling at ~70 degrees. But I took it in to the shop under warranty for repair hoping for a new one but they got it down to around 50 degrees idle which is acceptable so they returned it to me. Before that it couldn't even run prime 95 but they seem to have done something to fix it.

Before I could set it to 1080p, but somehow in my uninstalling/re-installing of drivers I've ended up with this:

The ram is dual channel

A checklist:

1. Is your motherboard BIOS version F2, F3, F4 or A5?
(F2 mentions something about APU compatibility though not sure what)

2. Was the "AMD chipset driver" installed?
http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4745#dl

3. Then, you installed this AMD driver package?
http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/desktop?os=Windows+7+-+64

4. Did you try the "optional" drivers, v14.9, as well?

These appear to be the same as the motherboard drivers but worth trying I guess if still having issues. They should be the same or newer. It's not necessary to get everything in the correct order though preferably you want the latest drivers installed last.

1) F4. Should I change to a different version?
2, 3 & 4) Yep, installed those and the optional drivers. I wish those sites had more options, everything seems so generic. Ive installed them all in order as well.

To your earlier post, my resolution shows as 1080p in the display settings and it now recognizes it as 'SAMSUNG" since re-installing CCC, which is good but display driver is still messed. Here is an error message I get in Catalyst Control Center:

I really hope not because CanadaComputers is a bitch when it comes returning things... But the computer never crashed and I never did anything intense on it so I dont see how I could have cooked it. The times it was up in the danger zone were very brief.

Sorry, I don't understand? I have a 3-year store warranty on it because it was open-box. 70 degrees is high but not quite the breaking point. It had cooling problems at first but has been fixed and now idles around the high 40's, which Ive read is normal for this APU with a stock cooler. My problem seems to be a fairly common (from browsing the internet, and not just with APUs either) so I am leaning towards it being a user error, not a hardware problem. I just meant if I did have to go that route, CanadaComputers always gives a hassle when trying to return things and RMAs take forever.

Yup your absolutely right but it's a moot point since temps are fine now. It only ever gets that high under load.

I'd like to get the discussion back on track, does anyone have any ideas? My version of windows is 32 bit if that helps at all.

It seems to have to do with the botched Catalyst installation. In the OP, I showed a screenshot of the log where it says that the Video Card Driver failed to install. Many other people report this error. I can't find the proper .dll or .inf file for the driver to manually install it either.

My understanding is that if the iGPU was damaged then I wouldn't get any picture at all. Is the 99C just an arbitrary number?

I am going to uninstall Windows 8.1 32 bit and install a fresh copy of Windows 7 64 bit right now just to see if it's something as simple as that, wish me luck!
