Hi all

I really hope you can help me out here. I'm trying to install Windows XP on
to my new machine. I have a single SATA drive plugged in to the SATA1 black
connector on the motherboard and a DVD on the IDE connector. I have no wish
for RAID or anything like that so I have disabled the Promise controller in
the BIOS. My problem is I have no idea which makedisk.exe to use from the
setup CD so I can install XP on to the single SATA drive. Can anyone please
give me basic step by step instructions and file locations etc to allow me
to do a fresh install?

Any help very much appreciated.

TIA

Richard

Use the VIA driver. It's in the following directory on the CD.
\drivers\viaraid\6420raid\driverdisk\makedisk

Hi, thanks for replying. I've done that and have a device in Device Manager
under SCSI devices (off the top of my head) an item called VIA RAID driver -
is this the correct one?

Thanks a lot for your help.

Yeah, it says RAID all over the place.
But it's the the same only driver even if you use it as a single disk
(or two as JBOD) without using the RAID feature.
