I bought the motherboard and i have read about the problems that it has with IDE drives so could someone tell me how you get optical IDE and IDE hard disk connected and get the windows xp installed and working?

Make the hard drive "Master" and the optical drive "slave". That pretty much should be it. Have your jmicron floppy handy in case it doesn't "see" the hard drive, which shouldn't be a problem since the Windows XP disc is on the same controller.
