Abit KD7: UDMA Changes Not Saved

I have the ABIT KD7 motherboard. Not sure of the BIOS version, but I got the
motherboard in Dec 2003 if that helps. It has an Athlon XP 2200 CPU with 512
DDR (266 FSB) memory installed.

I have the IDETool installed from the manual CD (version 1.0). It shows a
hard drive as being set to mode 4 UDMA 66. I'm trying to set it to 100. Then
I click "Save" then "Commit Change." It goes through the usual rebooting,
then when I come back up the same settings are still there.

Also, under device manager, IDE Channel, since installing the IDETool I no
longer see any settings for what the DMA modes are. The "advanced settings"
simply do not exist at all.

I have Windows XP Professional SP1.

You can try going to Via and d/l ing the "Hyperion" 4in1 drivers to
try them. (Sounds like you are running them already) If that is the
case you may try to uninstall the Hyperion drivers. the kd7 i am using
has some strange dma problems as well. My problems with DMA have been
with optical drives however so I am no help at diagnosing hard drive
dma problems... But if you keep playing with the drives/swapping them
around/etc. you might hit it up...both hard disks on my primary ide
show up as UDMA Mode 5 right now, so i know it can be done!
Good luck. and if all else fails write back with specifics of drive
order/brand and size of drives/etc and maybe someone else will chime
in.
