Access point Inside home has issues

This past weekend I setup a 2nd router as an access point (dhcp off, changed ip), and it worked fine (and still does). The problem is, that when I roam from router 1 to router 2, it will connect to router 2 but it won't give me an internet connection. I have to turn wifi off and on and reconnect for it to pick up the internet connection. The same issue occurs when I move from router 2 to router 1.

The issue only occurs when switching between the two wifi connections. They both have the same SSID + password. Does anyone know why this is occurring and how to fix it?

EDIT: I might have found this issue. I just realized that I router 2 is not directly connected to router 1, but goes through a 3rd router acting as a switch. So essentially it's router 1 (main) -> router 3 (switch) -> router 2 (access point). Will this cause any issues? Or does it need to plugged directly into router 1?

Solution
It can be attached through a switch, but should have a static address that is entered in the main router static address table. Have you done that or only set the address in router 2?

As long as router 3 is properly configured it should not matter -- does 3 also have a static address in the main router or are you only attempting to use its LAN ports as a switch?

I setup 2 as 192.168.1.31 and router 3 is 192.168.0.1 with dhcp on. I'm not sure if they're static, how do I check/configure that?

I just started reading http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/33700-42-ultimate-modem-router-setup-thread and realized that my 3rd router is incorrectly set up as a switch. Right now Router 1 uses a lan port to connect to the Wan on router 3. The So it's LAN to WAN from Router 1 to 3 at the moment. I need to reconfigure it tomorrow according to the guide.

Router 1 has a gateway IP of 192.168.1.1 yes.

I would set the IP address on router 2 (with DHCP off) to 192.168.1.2 and router 3 to 192.168.1.3 then make router 1 DHCP range .4 to .254 -- or some other arrangement that has them both outside the router 1 DHCP range. For both of the AP/switch routers set their addresses in the configuration of router 1 as static using those IP addresses and their respective MAC addresses and everything will be stable and work. Router 1 will control all dynamic IP assignment.

Ok I understand what you're saying. One question, when I connect Router 1 to 3, do I go LAN to LAN or LAN to WAN? The same goes for connecting Router 3 to 2.

EDIT: Also, router 3, should I turn DHCP off as well?

Thanks for the help by the way.

Yes, the only WAN port used is from your Internet modem to router 1, all others are LAN to LAN. DHCP must also be off in router 3.
