I'm doing a new build and I spent the last of my budget on DDR4 RAM, but I was an idiot and accidentally bought a single stick of RAM of 16gb rather than two 8gb. I most likely just saw 16gb and instantly bought it without thinking due to the sale.

My motherboard supports up to 64gb and dual memory, would it make that much of a difference if I stuck with this stick for a while? Although I feel like it's a waste if I keep it now and buy two sticks later making this thing useless resulting in me wasting money. If I return it, I most likely won't be able to finish this build for a couple more days but I do need to get some work done.

Thoughts?

The difference is negligible and you wont notice it. Actually is some cases single is better than dual. Take a look at this http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/does-dual-channel-memory-make-difference-in-gaming-performance/5/
Besides a single 16gb will allow for much better ram upgrade if and when required. (Between recently i chose a single 16gb over two 8gb for my build).
