I bought an Acer GN246HL Monitor, and it was showing 60hz refresh with my HDMI (I did not know 1.2 hdmi could not carry 144hz) So today I went and bought this Dvi-Dvi-d Cable (https://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/computing-accessories/computer-accessories/power-and-cables/computing-cables-and-adaptors/advent-advi3m15-dvi-cable-3-m-10116525-pdt.html) but still have no option other than 60hz for the monitor.

I'm using a 780 TI and have upgraded to the latest drivers, Both in windows display options and Nvidia control panel I'm only given the 60hz option.

Any ideas what is causing this? My monitor does not have a display port slot.

Make sure in the NVIDIA control panel you look in the "PC" section of the resolutions list.

You don't.

I have 1920x1080 selected as standard but only gives me 60hz option under Refresh rate.

Try setting custom resolution.

- Open the Start Menu and type "Control Panel" and press Enter
- Open the NVIDIA Control Panel (NVCP)
- Click "Change Resolution" (If there are no options besides 3D Settings, then you are most likely using a laptop with NVIDIA Optimus enabled. You should set a custom resolution from the Intel control panel instead, using the instructions from the Intel section below. Alternatively you can reboot and check the BIOS for an option to disable NVIDIA Optimus/switchable graphics).
- Select the correct monitor at the top
- Below the list of resolutions, click the "Customize" button
- If the Customize button is greyed out, go to the "Manage 3D Settings" section and make sure all options inside "DSR - Factors" are unchecked. Custom resolutions cannot be used with DSR.
- If the Customize button is still greyed out, make sure you have no pending changes. If there are "Apply / Cancel" buttons in the bottom right corner of the control panel, that means you have pending changes. You need to either apply or cancel them before setting a custom resolution.
- Click "Create Custom Resolution..."
- Set the horizontal pixels, vertical lines, and refresh rate boxes to the values you want, and in the Timing section, set the Standard option to "CVT reduced blank"
- Click Test; the screen will turn black for a moment. If it does not come back, hit the Escape key. Otherwise when it prompts you to save the resolution, click Yes
- Click OK to close the Customize window
- In the NVCP Change Resolution section, scroll to the top of the resolution list, your custom resolution should be in its own section at the top. Select it, then hit "Apply" in the bottom right.

Sorry, I did not know that they even made gaming monitors any more that did not have a display port. I was merely trying to help.

Forgot to mention I had tried this already, I get "input not supported" If I put anything above 60hz with a black screen.

It's fine I know you are, I had posted that my Monitor does not have a Display port slot though, also you said I need a Dual link DVI, I did link the DVI I bought as far as I am aware it's Dual link.

I will have to buy another tomorrow, I certainly hope not as the company I bought it from are a reputable company in the UK, and it was bloody expensive for a dvi cable!

Sorry, I totally missed the last sentence. When I saw 144hz and HDMI, I got a little ahead of myself.

Do you not have the DVI cable that came with the monitor? The Acer cable that came with the monitor should be dual link.

Try the bluerigger cable:

The cable arrived today, still the same issue, I noticed the monitor was being shown as "generic php monitor" I found the latest drivers from the Acer website and installed them and now the monitor is showing correctly. But the issue persists, I only have the option to select 60hz in both windows display adapter settings and Nvidia control panel.

I tried again to change the resolution to 144hz manually in Nvidia but still get a black screen with the error "input not supported" before returning itsself to 60hz a few seconds later. Really stuck for ideas.

Also this error has been occuring since the start, it said this even when windows was recognising the monitor as "generic php"

You are connected directly to the DVI port on the card right, no adapters?

Correct, gpu directly into monitor, tried both ports on the gpu.

Good Lord, I've realised what the issue is, I've been sent the wrong bloody monitor.

G246HL (60hz)
GN246HL (144hz)

I did not even know there was another version so I did not notice the missing "N" I just assumed the N was additional non important info.

Sending back now and getting a different monitor (NOT FROM ACER)

Glad you found the issue, lol 😛
