I used recovery disks once, didnt work. xp recovery disks, vista recovery disks and win 7 rec disks have also been used.... First message i get is : "BOOTMGR is missing" When using the vista disks and windows has loaded, and uve selected language, restore system from factory default, etc. rytools loads partition 1....Then load screen thingy says: Haddisk0/partition 1, not 2 as earlier..... so what do i do? how do i fix it, or is it garbage......PLEASE HELP ME! ;-)

Welcome to Tom's Hardware Forums,
First a couple of questions come to mind...
What model of Acer (can be found on bottom label)? What exactly (or as best you remember) occurred prior to you deciding a restore was needed? What operating system did the laptop have before? Are any of the recovery discs from Acer or that you created when installing the OS?
Sounds off hand as though the HDD has died but I just want to make sure it isn't something else.
