I have a 120GB SATA Hitachi laptop drive that was pulled out of another machine, or maybe even a PS3. When I dropped it into another machine that machine refused to boot and prompted me for a password.
I took the drive and hooked it up a USB drive to my windows 7 machine thinking that a good old fdisk and format might do the trick, but the drive will not activate in Win 7's disk management screen. I poked around the web and tried using Partition Master Home, which tells me that the disk is write protected. I also attempted to use windows built in "Diskpart" in the command prompt but that cannot see the drive since it will not activate, or at least I cannot figure out how to make it see the drive so that I can remove the attributes and thus make it so that I can activate it. I double checked and there are no jumpers on the drive that might control this.
So do any of you have any ideas on how can I remove the write protection and get the disk to be usable? Is there some super cool software that I should give a try? At this point any advise would be great.
