Hi. I'm new to seeking help in forums so if I've made any mistakes please feel free to let me know (I'm not precious!).
I recently purchased an Adaptec ASR-8885 on Ebay. When I received it, I noticed that on the bottom of it there is a sticker with 'ASR-8885/DELL LF CARD' printed. OEM worries me and I'm certainly not planning to use it in a Dell server. My research when selecting the adapter was based on the information provided in the Microsemi Adaptec website. The seller tells me that their vendor assures them that the card is 'universal'; they have not commented explicitly on whether the card is generic or OEM. They advise to try it and if it doesn't work they will refund. My concern is that even if it does seemingly work, they may be performance issues which are not apparent, and potential compatibility issues with HDD's purchased in future. Also, what if it works now, but has problems after future flashing of mother board BIOS.

My question is, Is there a way to definitively know if it is an OEM card or not? If it is Dell, will this be stated in the BIOS messages when card is loading during boot? If the usual Adaptec messages show during boot, does this definitely mean it is NOT an OEM card?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

There are likely many hundreds of Dell/Adaptec-branded cards used by Dell pulled from serviceable 2-5 yr old Dell servers being refurbished or scrapped....

Test it and see if it works, then you can stop worrying over it....it's just a RAID card, not a $1999 CPU....
