[SOLVED] Adaptor for dvi problems

Hello! So i have a Samsung SyncMaster 171s monitor. It supports only vga. Recently i bought a rx 580 and it has no vga ports so i tried a dvi-d to vga adaptor but it doesnt work. What is the problem here? The adaptor or the monitor just doesnt support dvi-d?

DVI has pins for digital and analog signals, so a VGA(analog) adapter will work.
DVI-D has 2 digital signals, no analog for VGA adapter to work.
You will need an active digital to analog adapter for it to work.
