I have a Teracom ADSL Type 2(Modem + Wifi Router). I was used this for Airtel and BSNL Broadband Connections. Now i have Ethernet connection with out any modem.

I am trying to use this device as Wireless Router. ISP Technican has told that we cannot use this device as Wireless Router as its combination of Modem and Wifi Functions.

Waiting for Suggestions.

Thanks.

You cannot use your ADSL modem -- you need a cable modem that is compatible with your cable provider and either a combined or separate router. You may be able to use the Teracom as a wireless access point though by attaching it to your new router with an LAN to LAN connection. I can give you more details once you have a new modem and router for cable. You also may be able to sell your Teracom if it is in good condition.

Ok sure. Please give me details I will purchase soon. Mine is PPPO connection. If you have any good cable modem router name in mind, let me know. Yes Teracom is in good condition only. I bought it for 700 INR , 3 Years back. I doubt someone will take this :)

To use the Teracom as a wireless access point you need to attach a computer to one of its LAN ports and enter the configuration page. You will need to disable its DHCP service and assign it a static IP address in both the Teracom and in the new router (if your new router supports address reservation you can use that instead). To do it either way you need the MAC address of the Teracom to enter in the new router. Give the Teracom the same SSID and security type/passphrase as the new router's wireless, but use a different radio channel (selecting from non-overlapping channels for each). The Teracom will need an LAN to LAN port connection to the router.

For a cable modem router combination, check with your Internet provider to insure compatibility, but the Motorola SBG 6580 SURFboard is one that I have used. I actually prefer to use a Motorola SB6141 modem and a separate router with the features needed for a specific job.

Thanks for Sharing Details. Will let you know if i have any issues in setting up this.
