Having just acquired a desktop Hewlett Packard 423.UK PC from a colleague of
mine, I noticed that he tried to install broadband using a BT Voyager ADSL
Modem. Having got broadband at home I wished to install my own modem and use
my broadband connection. My colleague disposed of his modem when he couldn’t
obtain broadband in his area, and he just removed the modem and subsequent
software from the PC. When trying to install my modem on the PC, it comes up
with ‘ADSL Modem Already Installed’ and I cannot find any files remaining
from BT Voyager Modem program files. I have even tried to go on www.BT.com
website install the Modem drivers; however this still does not work. I have
asked other colleagues of mine, and still nothing. Has anyone got any ideas
how I can remove this ‘ghost modem’, and install mine, as currently dial-up
is the only way of connecting and have to say..I’m not impressed with the
speed!!! Any help would be greatly appreciated. I had thought there might be
something in the registry which could delete any modem settings, but not that
confident to find out! Thanks!
