I am looking for a new display that is suitable for watching movies and series, and secondary some surfing and office work. For office and internet use the area will be 'normal' to fairly light, and if I am watching movies, dark.

I have a slight preference for Samsung and LG screens, because I have good experiences with them and mostly I like there designs. But I'm open to other brands.

What I find important is: a 'nice' design with small bezels. In addition, a good contrast, anti-glare display with decent colors and a uniform backlight.

Assuming this ..
TN - very cheap and fast, but narrow viewing angle and lesser color
MVA / (S) PVA - expensive, but best viewing angle and better color reproduction.
(H / S) IPS - most expensive, good viewing angle, best color reproduction. Well sometimes suffer from too bright white (sparkling).

So with that I mind I searched for IPS / PLS screens as they have the "best" color. A first selection are the following displays:
LG 27EA63V-P
Samsung S27C590H / S27D390H
Philips 274E5QHSB.
All based on price (lower/mid-end), design and panel type. I noticed that they all have a static contrast ratio of 1000: 1.

Assuming a higher contrast is better. I upped the static contrast ratio and got some (A)-MVA models. Like the:
AOC M2870VHE
BenQ GW2760HE / GW2760HS
Iiyama X2783HSU-B1

These screens have a static contrast ratio of 3000: 1.

In other words; what is the better choice for my situation? IPS/PLS or (A)-MVA type displays. What do you recommend and are there any other factors or screens that I've overlooked?

After some further research and reading reviews I could reduce the selection to a total of 4 screens. Two IPS and two A-MVA screens.

IPS:
LG 27EA63V-P / Samsung S27D390H

A-MVA:
BenQ GW2760HS / Iiyama X2783HSU-B1

A-MVA would give deeper black levels, and perform better in dark(er) scenes. Wich one is the better option as a overall / all-round 'movie' screen?

The Benq and Iiyama are (very) similar and got a ''Good" score at the test of prad.de.

But currently my dilemma is choosing between the two techniques..

Hope you got the A-MVA+ because movie-watching, surfing and office is exactly what they're best in. High contrast, very light AG coating and the Iiyama has a great color-accuracy no worse than the ips screens you listed.
The viewing angle of IPS remains best though, because they're not suffering from the off center contrast shift that VA have.
On the other hand, if you watch a lot of movies and dark content, the IPS glow would probably be the worse of the two.
