Hi,

I'm a thirtysomething living in the United States with a physical disability; I have a neuromuscular disease. Because of my muscle weakness, there are precious few models of computer mice that I can operate. My favorite model of mouse is a Creative Labs wired optical mouse that was last manufactured around 2007.

I am experiencing the infamous "double-click problem" with my mouse. I am looking for an electrical engineer to diagnose and fix the problem. I could potentially ship the mouse anywhere in the country (or the world).

There are detailed instructions for fixing the "double-click problem" in this article at Creative Creations, but since I am physically disabled, I'm unable to physically do the repair myself (not to mention the fact that I have no experience with soldering!).

Do you have any advice on how to go about finding a LEGITIMATE, EXPERIENCED, and RELIABLE electrical/computer engineer, potentially anywhere in the USA (or anywhere else in the world)? I want to find someone who actually knows what they're doing.

Thanks so much,
Andrew

Have you looked for an exact replacement on E-Bay ?

Was this your mouse?

You may simply have a better time finding an old packaged one or a used one than finding an engineer. Because actually getting an experienced engineer to look at it, without a personal connection, might be as expensive as a new PC. A computer store (not a big chain or anything) might be a better idea, but I don't know what's around you.

If muscle weakness it's what keeping you from using different mice, have you looked at some of the very lightweight mice that are out there? The Razer Viper V2 Pro and the Glorious Model I are two examples of very light mice which may very well be a lot lighter than any old Creative Labs mouse. And if fine motor control is also the problem, these types of premium light mice are usually quite configurable.
