hello ppl,
neeed some advice on overclocking

here is my conifguration :
Asus A8NSLI Premium
A64 3000+ Venice Core (1.8GHZ, 512KB L2 Cache)
2*512 MB Generic Transcend RAM 3-3-3-6 2T
XFX 6800 GS

i tried overclocking on my own but i'm nt sure if it's right or wrong !!

the memory frequency is at 'AUTO" and every voltage control is also at AUTO, this way i'm able to overclock till 2700 MHZ (300*9), htt = 3X, but when i check the memory frequency the bios drops it to 266 Mhz (earlier before ocing it was 400 Mhz), and if i manually put memory frequency to 400 Mhz with processor o'ced to 2.7 Ghz it wont boot, so hw do i go abt o'cing the processor with the memory at 400 mhz (i need the memory bandwidth !) and also can i oc my processor more than 2.7 Ghz ?? the temps are within the limit (never more than 60 deg. at full load at 2.7 Ghz) and plz explain to me abt the divider thing.

I'll give you a hand pal, dun worry:

Go into the BIOS, set your clock speed (The default is @ 200MHz) to 260MHz. Put your Voltage to 1.475v on CPU. Go into your RAM Config where it says 400MHz, set it to 333MHz. The RAM Divider is the speed of how much slower your RAM will run compared to the clock speed (the 200MHz default). Your RAM and CPU run on the same clock (Not really, but for all intents and purposes, go by this for now) and the RAM Divider let's the RAM run slower, because most RAM won't go as high as a CPU can. If you have any more questions, drop a post here or PM me.

thnx mike,
will try this sooon, is it possible to go much higher
than wt u said ??!! can i overclock much better if i use a better
quality RAM like Corsair ? wt wud be the best FSB while keeping the RAM
frequency at 400 Mhz ? and also i watch a lot of hdtv content, keeping the
speed anywhere less than 2.4 Ghz on some .ts files results in choppy videos, any suggestions on wt shud be the best speed of A64 while watching .ts files
(smoothly that is ).

If you follow what I said, you'll have an FX-53 CPU, you shouldn't go much higher than that because than you get into higher voltages, much more heat, and you need to be experienced to know what to do to avoid damage or instability.

i have a few questions on RAM overclocking and Divider

1) if i increase my FSB from 200 Mhz to let's say 260 Mhz and if the memory divider is at 1:1 will the frequency of my memory also run at 260 mhz ie 520DDR ?? or am i completely wrng ?!!

2) does changing the command rate have any performance advantage
(ie 2T to 1T), will my RAM run much faster (ie. will it give more bandwidth)

3) do lower clock timings give more advantage over higher frequencies ??

1. u are correct
2. 1t is better
3. try to keep it at 3338 if u got generic ram. latencies dont mean much for performance. just e-penis. just dont make latencies too high to get higher clocks that's stupid.

u got a lucky chip to hit 2.7. btw wat vcore are u using? upping vdimm might also help to get higher clocks on ram

thnx illicitsc,

when i hit 2.7 Ghz my Vcore was at Auto but a quick peek at ASUS Probe showed 1.5 (most probably). hw much vdimm shud i increase (really dunno wt voltages to use when !!!)

i can't hit higher than 2.7 ghz, even 1 mhz increase in fsb (301*9) stopped my pc from booting, any reasons why ?????

which RAM would be perfect for overclocking (keeping memory divider 1:1), thinking of buying 2*1GB Kit, will it hit 300 Mhz ??!!

put vdimm at 2.8v , no more
then up vcore to 1.55v
and use a mem divider of 166. dont worry bout the down clock cuz when ur at 300htt its automatically back at ddr400. test your cpu potential b4 u waste money on overclocking ram. keep us updated i was pretty dissapointed in my venice.

sorry for replying after such a long time 🙁

i reached 310*9 = 2790 for 5 minutes and after tht BSOD and restart !
it was stable at 305*9 = 2745
will better cooler help me achieve more ??!!
