I'm curious about my options for upgrading the GPU on an old 2014 build. The PC and GPU I'm using now are good, but I'd like to try Stable Diffusion with Torch which needs an Nvida GPU. Anyway, please suggest compatible Nvidia cards for this old build. Probably won't be worth the cost, but I'm interested in my options.

Using Windows 10

Thanks for your help!

• A couple specific links to prices for cards that meet my criteria above (post #18) without a $ limit?
The least expensive new card which would be worth considering is an RTX 3060 because it has 12GB VRAM. If you're in the US these will start around $250.

Pretty much every new nvidia card with minimum 12GB VRAM: https://pcpartpicker.com/products/v...9,551,555,528,529,530,531,504,435,417,375,393

This is much harder to do given the way prices fluctuate, but GTX 1080 Ti (11GB), TITAN X (pascal)...

Thanks everyone. I really appreciate the informed advice I get here and the patience for people like me. After all this, I think I'll just wait and put the money into my next build.

For those who, like me, who are interested in playing with Stable Diffusion and have an older AMD card (R9 290 w/4GB Vram in my case), you CAN use it, but it's just slow.

This guy offers a true hand holding through the whole install, but make sure you watch the end about memory. This basically involves adding an argument to the batch file either "--lowvram" or "--medvram".

I would be looking at a used 2060 Super or 2070 non-Super. Performance will be similar to a 3060 12gb, but you'll save a lot of money. Your CPU is probably not better than a 6th or 7th gen i7. Anything more than that is going to be overkill. I'm running a 2060 Super in my i7 6700 system, and it's about maxed out.
