Hey, i will try to keep this short.
BasicallyI have 4gb ram in my lil rig, and am going to move up to 8gb, simple enough, but im not sure which way to do it.
Should I get another 4gb stick or get one 8gb stick?
Reasons I would get a 4gb stick is, the price, dual channel(increase of 10% over one 8gb stick,) and thats it i think.
Reasons for the 8gb stick, future proofing, i only have two ram slots on my mobo so in the future i guess I would go up to 16gb someday, but not for a year at least.. there are other things I want to get before i get more ram.
Thanks for your advice..
Sorry i dont know how this is in overclocking as I was in memory...

If your trying to run dual channel just make sure the new RAM stick matches the current stick you have. Thats what I would do. Especially if your graphics are integrated into the CPU. Of course you do run the risk of the pair not working together. The 8GB stick seems to be simpler, and leaves you room to upgrade.

Hey , thanks for your answer, that definately seems the most logical.

Just from what you said, would intergrated graphics,in an APU would run better in a dual channel setup?
I ask as Im running an AMD APU ,, A4-6300,with a small graphics card, probably lower middle class, an R7 250x if i remember, (im not on it at moe otherwise I would check..) ,basically when I get the ram, next I will upgrade the processor, then should be able to crossfire or whatever amds is called with a decent APU GPU thing. (also all this was/will be cheap.)this is all on a smaller mobo that i dont want to upgrade for ages.., anyway starting to rant,

Thank you for your advice so I will go with one stick of 8gb as it seems it could be simpler and better upgrade path.
Thanks again.

Yes Alsmoo, Integrated graphics will run better in a dual channel configuration when compared to single channel(like 5%~10% only). And from what I read on the APU, a higher speed will help as well, such as 1866MHz DDR3 compared to 1600MHz DDR3. Know that the OS and programs share the RAM with your integrated graphics. So an upgrade from 4GB to 8GB would help. But you did say you are using an R7 250x, so I guess your not using the Integrated Radeon HD graphics? As far as crossfire goes, I'm not too knowledgeable on how well the APU crossfire works.
