Need some advice on a sound card and prices.

I am putting together a asus a7v kt133 w Tbird 900mhz
geforce2 gts 64mb DDR vid card and 128 mb ram

You didn't say how much you wanted to spend, but you can always find the best prices @ pricewatch.com. I like creative labs card, probably because I am a sucker for marketing, but I have also had very good luck with them. I you want a great soundcard and have a use for all of the inputs and outputs, check out the Creative Labs Platinum 5.1 it's $161 on pricewatch.

Take your pill, and get some sleep.

I have the Philips Acoustic Edge and like it a lot. Maximum PC rated it higher than SoundBlaster Platinum 5.1 and you can get it for about $90. Her is the review: http://206.57.19.206/FMPro?-db=maxpcrev.fp3&-format=detailformat_soundcard.html&-lay=allfields&-sortfield=Unsorted&Category=soundcard&-op=gt&Verdict=0&-max=20&-recid=33838&-find=

If you havn't bought the mb yet get one with the KT133A chipset. I've read that you can take a (for example) 10x100=1000mhz tbird and run it at 10x133=1330mhz with decent cooling. I think I got the link to the post on www.ntcompatible.com

I am running 900 at 9x112=1008 (more than enough for anything at this point) on KT7 basic (non raid) board.
Wow, 1 gig for 150 bux... hehe

Yeah, forgot, the hit sink is almost cold, which is still beyond my mind, on a regular 100mhz frequency it is warm.

its not too late yet...

Well so far I got this:

A7V KT133 board for $132
GeForce2 GTS 64mb DDR for $235
Monster Orb, case fan and grease for $12

I will probably pick up a tbird 900mhz for $129
Now I just need RAM and a cdrom and HD. Any ideas on the ROM and Drive? Maybe a 20gig

i prefer the western digital harddrives myself ,mostly because of the low cpu usage, about 10% compared to say maxtor using arround 30%, yes the maxtor will almost allways beat a wd in performance it also uses more of your cpu performance doing it

I've had good luck with www.memman.com They have some decent prices on pc133 cas2 ram. I also have a wd 40 gig drive that hauls ass. It did very well on www.storagereview.com scoring about even with ibm's drive. It's a 20gig/platter drive and thus comes in 20 and 40 gig capacities.
