Hi community, I hope you all had an amazing holiday season. I have been recently having some really strange issues with my PC after replacing my SLI 970s with a single 1080. Usually I am pretty handy when it comes to fixing issues on my computer but this one really has me stumped as it is strangely specific. Initially after installing the 1080 there was no issues whatsoever all my games where running fine and everything seemed to be amazing. Until the next day when I attempted to boot up H1Z1 king of the kill (which I had played fine the night before). The launched popped up like normal but when I clicked play I never ending window saying (starting battleye service). The game would never launch and this window would stay up indefinitely.

In an attempt to fix this I ctrl+alt+delete and opened task manager. Instead task manager would not open and I was strangely unable to open any other program. After about 2 minutes of my computer background basically being frozen both of my monitors went black. The computer was still on and I could see my mouse on the screen but everything was black. So I manually restarted my computer thinking that after the restart everything would be okay. Unfortunately after logging back into windows I was confronted with all of my personalized settings being reset and a message from windows telling me that they couldn't sign my profile in. So I restarted again after logging back in a second time everything was fine but now every once and a while I will get these random waves of incredible slowness where a program won't open for a long amount of time and during this time I would also be unable to click on any other program icons. I have also observed issues with the playing of gifs and webms. Since this I have ran multiple virus scans and I have reinstalled my 1080s drivers. I apologize for the long winded wall of text and if I am putting this under the wrong category. I just have no idea how to resolve this and I am worried. Thank you very much for your time.

GIF playing issues were present in earlier NVIDIA drivers, but they should had been fixed by now..
Have you updated all your JAVA drivers to the latest? Remove ALL earlier versions of JAVA and only install the latest one. Also make sure you are using the right JAVA (32 or 64 bit or both) depending on the application.

I would also check your HDD/SSD for corruptions. My SSD recently started giving me weird Windows errors due to some bad blocks. When I checked the SMART it indeed confirmed my suspicions.

If it only happens when graphics are involved, then uninstall the NVIDIA drivers completely (not just upgrade), go in Safe Mode and use a 3rd party utility to clean all registry settings related to NVIDIA - and then do a fresh install...
Sorry I forgot to include the basics. The whole setup is as follows.

Windows 10 Pro 64-bit
16 gb DDR3 ram
Gigabyte Technology Co. Ltd. Z97X-UD3H-BK-CF
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 (ASUStek Computer Inc)
Intel Core i5 4690 @ 3.50GHz
CorsairRM 1000 watt power supply

So the power supply should be okay and I have had no previous issues with this computer. Usually it is very very fast so I am at a loss. Also this might be irrelevant but I just ran a 3DMARK extreme stress test and the system passed with a 98.6%

Could you please tell us what your cpu temperature is while your gaming, plus your cpu isn't really the best with a 1080, you should have went with a i7

Thank you for your response Dank Tech. During Witcher 3 the cores where averaging around 45 C and maxing at 49 C. In regular use they are around 33 C. The CPU upgrade will be coming in the near future.

This has also been known to cause grief to some people (speaking from experience - thank you NVIDIA!)
