Aftermarket heatsink

i want to get a aftermarket heatsink. I have a Elite 430 case with a asrock amd 970 extreme3 mobo with a amd phenom II x6 1075t. It tends to go over 40C.

so far i wanted to buy this one:

with the artic silver 5 thermal compound

but i think its too big

If I am correct it should barely fit. Though You don't need arctic silver 5, the stock cooler master compound is actually a great performer.

It will fit just fine i have a 212+ in my 430.
I agree with amuffin the supplied paste is very good,what i used.
The AS5 will yield maybe a 3C drop in temp.

'Sometimes' but only if you have a large cut out behind the mobo.

Yep the 430 has a cpu cut-out.

You will need to take the mobo out to install it or most any good after market cooler as your case does not have a open mobo tray for that.

As for TIM, AS5 was great in the day but there is much better out there. I am using the Zalman STG2 which is rated pretty high right now in performance.

The cpu cut out looks smallish. Take the right panel off and see if you can see all four mounting holes around the cpu. If they are under metal, you need to take out the mobo. (I am sorry to say that I think you will have to )

Let me correct myself, it does have one. Hard to tell as the inside is all black. Still may be hard to do. Depends on the size.

Look! i have a CM Elite 430 and a 212+.
You don't need to remove the mobo to install it.
I've done it!
No guessing involved like the last few posters who obviously have no idea!
fits like a charm = easy!

^ can't argue with that.

If he has the exact same mobo, case and cooler as you, and he has added the cooler after the mobo was mounted, then there is no reason not to believe him on this one.

oops... i started a thread on this topic allready. sry! umm i have a 430 Elite as well, which coolers can you or do you use? and are you still able to fit the top mounted exhaust fans with a aftermarket cooler? id really appricate the help, this is my first build.

i haven't able to mount it yet, but im planning to in the near future. the cooler i wanted to get is the link i posted on the top. if dav said it fits, it fits. it's just a pain to install. i think there is a tutorial on how to install it on the link i provided on the top.i'll just repost it again.

i installed mine in about 3 mins

edit: i think the newegg tutorial is kind of old. The fan comes attached to the heatsink now. Just put it on top of the cpu and secure the latches and youre done.

yeah lol, id take advice of someone who has already done it,anyday. i plan on getting that,along with some nice hardware upgrades, rosewill psu and gaming ram,this coming month. i belive it is a pain to install as well, from the installation videos ive watched. a bit time consuming and all,but shouldnt be that bad. thanks for the feedback as well,always appricated

that was one of my original choices, do you have the Elite 430 black edit. Cooler Master case as well?

i changed my mind. i think i might get a liquid cooling. it seems to be more efficient but costly. would a corsair h40 be good?

Corsair has the H60, H80 and H100 for you to look at. The H50 and h70 are older and the pumps aren't as good.

If you are looking at the smallest profile, it will be the H60 or the Antec Kuhler 620. I believe that the Kuhler may be a bit better than the H60. Here is a link for you:

If you have the budget and the space you can look at the Antec Kuhler 920 or the H100. H100 comes with two fans and you can upgrade to 4 fans in push/pull which is the best manufactured cooler set up right now.
