What is the best AGP video card for a Dell Optiplex GX 240 mini tower computer.

If your using the original Dell GX240 250w full size psu, then very limited.

The best from the forums suggest a GT6600/GT6800 with OC series being the ones to find on ebay for $20-$30.

I doubt the 6800GT will run on a 250W PSU. More so if that PSU is old and has been in use for a long time. A 6600 or x1600 is probably a better call. As mentioned above you might be looking at any AGP card you can find. They aren't very common now.

ok i did a little research and you can add upto 4670 from Radeon. idk about geforce.

Forgot to mention if its in a mini tower then you'll probably need a half height card.

Right you are. I didnt realise they still made AGP cards in that generation.

Interesting, and thanks for the quick replies. Since the GX240 only has a 250w powersupply, I was looking at the VisionTek Radeon HD 3450, ...only requires a 230w power supply.

There are PCI 5450 and GT 520. They are more recent and is an alternative if you can't find any AGP card.
The AGP 3870 is slightly faster the 4670 but the 3870 is even more rare. I had an APG 3850 before. Best resell value graphic card I have ever owned. Sold it at the same price I bought it for after using it for 3 years.

what do you intend to use it for anyway? even if you managed to get a decent card you will still be bottlenecked by your CPU if you want to game.

But of course the 4670 requires at least a 400w power supply. Well beyond the 250w power supply on the GX240.

Indeed. Which is why I never suggested it. I don't think it ever came in a half height version either.

it still should work on a 250W one. it only consumes 60W from what ive seen.
