Hello,

my PC is not recognising my SD card. I went into devise manager and found a Yellow ! When I right clicked "Alcor Micro USB 2.0 Card Reader" (in device manager) I got this popup message.

"Windows cannot use this hardware device because it has been prepared for "safe removal", but it has not been removed from the computer. (Code 47)

To fix this problem, unplug this device from your computer and then plug it in again."

I have no memory of preparing it for safe removal. How can I get my Alcor Micro USB 2.0 Card Reader working again? How do I unplug it, (if that is the fix)? What does it look like to unplug?

Thanks.

Solution
It seems it's removing the actual card reader not the individual slot. As long as you are not pulling out the card when it's in use you don't need to use the safe removal, card will be fine without it. I almost never use that feature and work with external drives often.

Hi,

Do you mean my SD card is connected to a USB port? I'm inserting the SD card into the SD slot on my PC, (as normal).

I have removed and reinserted the card many times now trying to get it to be recognised. The only time the computer recognises the card is when the card is already in the PC before it is turned on.

If it's built into the computer you need to unplug it from the inside, there should be cable leading from it to the motherboard. Unplug it, turn on the computer, turn it back off, plug it in and turn it back on, see if it reads the cards normally after that.

Ok, I've had a look and there seems to be many single coloured wires (tied together) coming from the reader. They then branch off into 4 groups, into 4 different ports on the Motherboard. Are these the cables from the card reader? Is many coloured wires together what the "cable" looks like?

The names of the ports on the Motherboard:

JAUD1
JUSB1
JUSB2
JFP1

Ok I've done that and still the problem is there.

If I insert a SD card after the PC is turned on, it will read it the first time no problem but when I go through the "remove safely" process that first time. After that is just says,

"Windows cannot use this hardware device because it has been prepared for "safe removal", but it has not been removed from the computer. (Code 47). To fix this problem, unplug this device from your computer and then plug it in again."

It would seem it's staying in the safe removal state after the first safe removal? Are there any Windows 10 software settings that can help with this?

Thanks, I do need to remove the cards when in use.

I went to the company's site and downloaded the latest driver, (even though the updater said latest driver was installed). The latest driver solved the problem.
