Hello. I'm 15 years old kid but I wanted some guidance from u guys. So My Laptop is Toshiba Satellite C665 and Version of PSC55A-00Q005 and running Kali Linux as Main OS in the hard drive. And It is about 6 years old I think (my mom gave it to me when she got herself new laptop) The laptop works completely fine. I decided to buy a new RAM so I can multi task things in VirtualBox and ended up buying a RAM from a shop two days ago and the RAM was the RAM that was mostly same with the specs of this laptop's preinstalled RAM. The specifications are DDR3,SO-DIMM,1333Mhz,PC3-10600S,4GB. When I get back to home, I opened the back of the Laptop to install it. But The upper slot was a bit harder to push and plug it but I gave it a little pressure and it was plugged. At first try, The display didn't work and the noise of the fans was not hearable. So I watched these video from yt (
View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=svMHPrvttdE
and
View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q1OZQL2l-lM
). So even though it is hard to plug and push the ram sticks in the upper slot I can now plug each memories(alone) in the upper slot and access the memories just like using the lower slot like usual. But The problem here is even though both slots are now working just like they are supposed to, I can't use both rams on both slots(they can't work together). I tested both ram sticks on both slots with MemTest86+, I got errors after 2 or 3 passes but when I test the rams on both slots one by one no error on the results after 2-3 even more. All OS's I use doesn't work accordingly(even if they booted correclty) when I use two at same time, even my Main OS. I run Windows PE on my USB and get errors like Critical process died,Memory Management..., so much more each time I boot on that USB too. I got myself another Kali Live USB and booted but no error but when I see task manager it only uses 3.8gb of my total memory(I think only one of the rams was used). Both RAMs work completely normal.

SO PLEASE HELP.
Thanks If any of you responded and tried to help.

It seems like my problem is from my laptop only supporting single channel mode. I will(may) go to the shop and exchange my original laptop's ram and also give that another ram and get myself single 8gb ram. how abt that?

Maximum RAM is 8GB (4GB per slot), and both sticks should be from the same package (2x4) to ensure that they work together.

And, the question must be asked, why Kali Linux? Kali is NOT a general purpose distribution. It is for security professionals NOT hackers and crackers or wannabe's

So I can't use 8gb ram stick in one slot?

I know Kali Linux is not general purpose distribution. And I wanted to use it, I'm already familiar with Linux so don't be mad.

If you do go back to the shop take your laptop with you. Maybe the shop can find the best outcome .
Mom is gonna kill me If I did. She thinks my hands destroy anything I touch so I don't want to have any more conflict with her. The time she yelled at me multiple times last week is enough for me. Plus she doesn't know much abt computers so I can't have her do calm conversation and understand me abt this.

You just listed a clock speed. And "similar" is not "exact spec and model."

These details are always important, but especially important when troubleshooting RAM.

This is the one of the ram's info(plugged only one).
I will give you info like this now after I change to the second ram so u can know what is the problem. The command I did is "sudo dmidecode --type memory"

And the second ram(that i bought)

# dmidecode 3.4
Getting SMBIOS data from sysfs.
SMBIOS 2.7 present.

Invalid entry length (0). DMI table is broken! Stop.

Looks like there is an issue from the ram itself but as I know I now booted from this memory but there is no issue and difference other than this output.

So What does this really mean?
