While turning it off is good for in games, its very useful in desktop uses but I find it very poorly done and absolutely no options to adjust how it works.

What I'm looking for:
Third party software (pay or free) or how to fine tune the built in one. Any ideas?
Yes, I've googled this but nothing that takes care of the 'fine tuning' part of it.

With trackball, the main advantage is moving the cursor pointer extremely accurately for short distances while with the mouse, you can cover longer distances easier.

Since trackballs aren't that popular, most of them don't come with as much customization as mice come. Though, did some digging and found one trackball with DPI button you could try out, an Elecom M-DT2 trackball,

Rather than messing with the software, the gamer community has fixed it by using mice that has on-the-fly DPI adjustment. Either use the mouse that doesn't have included software for DPI adjustment, like the Gigabyte M6880x that i'm currently using on my Skylake build,

Or go with a mouse that has software support for fully customizable DPI, e.g Corsair Sabre RGB (that i'm planning to go with),

I'm a trackball user so I don't have 100 to choose from. I could never get into the regular mouse. Too much work to move my hand around 😛

Thanks. I put that mouse on my amazon wish list for payday. Kensington is still the best mouse for me with its design. Unfortunately with the fact that they don't seem to be updating or adding new features like middle scroll (with click) and DPI button and better optical tracking is why I'm going to leave them once I found an alternative.
