So I'm looking around for a alternative to the Asgard II. I'm thoroughly dissapointed that I will not be able to get one, as it seems like a lot of the builds were based on it, including the most recent budget build. It seems however, that it's been discontinued as Newegg and Amazon doesn't show it available to purchase.

I was looking for an alternate case that is around the same price, as I'd like to save as much money to go towards the processor and graphics card.

Instead of asking for a particular alternative (although I'd appreciate that of course,) I'd like to know what sorts of things I should be looking in a cheap case to have. I saw on Newegg several that were <$40, but I'm not sure what specs to be looking for.

Any help would be appreciated, thank you in advance for your responses.

aluminum or steel is not worth considering as a heat control issue . It might have been 20 years ago when cases didnt have fans [ or only tiny ones] but not today . Now its about air flow

The best budget cases IMO are the
HAF 912 and Antec 300

But the CM 430 is the best $40 case

I don't believe a mini-tower is going to work for my build.. It's essentially the same as the budget build.

I believe I saw the Antec used in Newegg's budget build, and it's nice that you both think that the 430 will do. I like the lights, I can't resist the light as well as the transparent screen.

It's been so long though since I'd built a computer... which is better for heat dissipation? Aluminum or Steel?

Edit: Oh! More to the point of this whole topic, what features do you look for when your looking at cases besides form factor.

Oops - wrong thread!

This would be better: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119233

I think both are fine - it's more placement of fans and how you route your cables that will ultimately decide how air flows through your system.

What my main requirements for a case are placement of fans and PSU (prefer bottom-mounted), ability to route cables behind motherboard tray, and CPU retention hole for mounting coolers without removing the motherboard.

I have the HAF 912 and it is indeed excellent. For the price it is pretty unmatched anywhere in terms of features and cable management.
