Just wondering the life span of this socket?

If I build with a Phenom II cpu... how many more cpu's will come out after to upgrade to? that will fit in Am3/am3+ boards? Just wondering...

online I'm reading the AM3+ is for future "Zambezi" CPUs which use the new Bulldozer microarchitecture and will retain compatibility with AM3 processors.. So I guess this architecture is good enough for 5-8 years?

I would not expect any new AM3 CPUs now that AMD has moved to Zambezi/FX and the AM3+ socket. No one except AMD can predict the lifespan of a socket design but I'm thinking the desktop Piledriver core CPUs coming as BD/Zambezi/FX upgrades might use the same AM3+ socket.

AM3+ basically was designed to support zembezi/BD which is currently out now (FX 8150, 8120)

I believe the AM3+ should also support PileDriver the next revision of zembezi - although I am not 100% sure on that. So I would say it will be compatible for the next 1-2 years.

Its quite hard to predict where everything will be in 5-8 years. I'm guessing by then AMD will be using something like AM4...

AM3+ is backwardly compatible with AM3 socket chips. AM3 is not neccessaraly compatible with AM3+ CPUs

If you're going for a Phenom II build and hope to upgrade it latter on then get an AM3+ board.

Socket FM 2/3 are for laptops not desktops.

Most of the boards I've been looking at say AM3/AM3+ I will look deeper into the chipset... Thanks for the info.

yea it's looking like this is gonna be my build.. that mobo with the 1100t.

alittle bit of both... ripping, converting video files.... gaming, some photoshop, mainly gaming... but i'd rather have the extra power if needed.....

realistically I plan on doing the build in Late January... moving at the end of the year... wanna buy a new desk, setup my new room and then build everything instead of having to travel with everything.. im in no rush.. i'm looking at hardware, doing some research and i think im gonna settle on what I said, prices can only go down from here on out
