I have recently built a new system, but it freezes few second after I switch it on ( even in the BIOS window ) with no error messages.
Although I've an Athlon 1,4 Mhz 133/266 Fsb the motherboard only recognize this settings Athlon 1050 Mhz 100, if I try to change it , the system reconizes the CPU but stops immediatly.
What's wrong with it ? Does anyone can help me ?
This is my system:
MSI 6380 KT266
Athlon 1,4 Mhz 133/266
128 MB DDR PC2100
Creative GeForce2 PRO
HD Maxtor 20 gb ata 100
proper cooling (thermantake volcano 6 cu).

Do you have some form of goop?? Such as artic silver?? Something like that. Is the memory inserted properly?? try it with just the basics for ex. no sound card, just video.

Thank you for helping me, this is the configuration at the moment I try the boot:
MSI 6380 kt266
Athlon 1,4 Mhz 133/266
GeForce 2 Pro
No sound card
No CDRom drive
1 Hard Disk or 1 boot floppy ( as an alternative )
1 DDR 128 MB PC2100( I own another DDR Simm 128 MB but nothing to do with both of them )
No floppy drive
Thermaltake Volcano6 Cu + Artic Silver II.
I have already tried different solution:
Millennium g400 instead of GeForce2 PRO
Different power sources (always ATX 300 W)
128 MB DDR instead of 128 MB DDR Kingston.
The on D-Led ( which help troubleshooting ) doesn't displays anything wrong.
The CPU reaches a max temperature of 51C but the system freezes even before.
The Core voltage is 1,744/1,766.
I'm thinking about a faulty Mobo but what about the CPU ?

Hmmm... It might be the CPU or the mobo. Does it boot at the 100fsb??

It only boots at 100fsb but freezes after few seconds.
If I try to boot at 133fsb I loose the screen and that's it!
I am thinking about sending the mobo back to the shop but the processor ?

I was just about to ask about that motherboard. Why is there an LE version and a PRO version, what's the difference and which one of them has the resistor at the wrong place?
I can't find anandtech's article about these resistors so I'd apreciate somebody giving me the links.
Thanks.

Try the processor in another computer and see if the other computer freezes too, or try a different proc in that mobo. If it were me, I'd be too impatient to risk sending back the wrong part... Just an idea.

I think you've mistaken me for gegio. I was just asking about the different editions of this board.

The on board D-Led, which is made of 4 led (green or red) and each combination color/led indicates a particular hardware problem , doesn't displays anything wrong about the processor or ram memory.
That's why I'm almost sure that the problem is the mobo.
Is this diagnostic method accurate and reliable ?

which version the msi 6380 do you have?? the le or the pro?? if you have the pro there was a problem with a resistor or something like that, so it caused wierd things to happen to systems, so msi fixed the problem and then put out a bug free version of the board... you should check with where u bought the board from....if its the old one the board is the problem

I have the Pro Version and I am going to discuss it with the shop where I bought the mobo.

Thank you for your precious advice.

np.. just make sure u still have warranty on your old board and im pretty sure there won't be a problem getting the new bug free version

I have written to the MSI support to get more information about the bug.
They said that my mobo can not be one of them, since I have a RAID controller installed on board.
However, I am going to verify it with the shop.

yea the misplaced transister was on the pro board w/o raid.. i would say that its the processor but den im not sure... did u buy the processor oem?? try booting up u'r system with limited stuff.....just ram and speaker.. see wat happens, den add vid card, etc... see if u can isolate the problem... good luck with u'r comp

Finally found the problem!
It is a little condensator positioned down the DDR slots that have burned.
Unfortunately it was a bad ram module that did it.
Unlucky man!

Thanks for everyone's assistance.
