I recently put a AMD 64 X2 4800 on an older board to replace the AMD 3800 it had, replaced heatsink and fan also with Alpine 64

Temp at idle is around 35C but under 98% load of processors they max out to 71-72C.

This occurs while under severe load otherwise temps range between 35C-50C depending on load.

Here is a quick look at OHM stats

The reviews of the Arctic 64 say that it is quieter than the stock cooler, but also only cools as good as the stock original. I would upgrade the cooler to something with a little better performance.

I was thinking about upgrading...was just trying to minimize cost..i have next to nothing invested in this setup, trying to keep it that way. My main concern was since 71C is the max safe rating of the processor would running it at that while for periods of say 2-3hrs a few times a week be a problem?

Like your style Whtwolf.. direct and to the point :) Message received I am looking into better coolers :)
