First the BIOS password corruption thing and now this, kind of bad service level from Intel; not what i would expect. I would have expected they tested this thoroughly before releasing it into the wild. Guess not. :/

And now for the weekly AMD news updates :):

From DailyTech :

Former AMD CEO, GlobalFoundries Chairman Ruiz Ensnared in Insider Trading Case

AMD's former CEO fed illegal tips to current defendant

Two weeks ago, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission aired shocking charges in the largest insider trading case to date. The case nabbed an Intel Capital executive and IBM's head of hardware, Robert Moffat. Now another high profile name has been implicated in the case.

A criminal case filed in the Manhattan U.S. Attorney's office stated that an unnamed Advanced Micro Devices executive had passed insider stock tips to a defendant -- now that unnamed executive has been revealed to be none other than former AMD CEO Hector Ruiz. At the time when he allegedly passed information to defendant Danielle Chiesi, he had already stepped down from CEO and was serving as the company's Chairman.

Lawyers for Ms. Chiesi's lawyers refused comment, as did Mr. Ruiz. Mr. Ruiz is the largest name in the tech industry to be implicated in the case yet. Currently Mr. Ruiz is facing no criminal charges.

Allegedly Mr. Ruiz tipped Ms. Chiesi in 2008 that a major reorganization of AMD was about to occur. That reorganization was the spinoff of AMD's fabrication business and creation of the Abu Dhabai backed Globalfoundries Inc. Globalfoundries makes chips for AMD and other firms. Mr. Ruiz has served as its chairman since its founding.

And yet another Fuddzy rumor about lots of job cuts next year:

Industry sources are confident that AMD is geting ready to axe a lot of jobs in Q1 2010. AMD already cut a lot of jobs in European operations in late 2008 and 2009 and it looks like the same strategy will continue in 2010.

We don't know any numbers, but AMD is preparing for a tough 2010, as when it comes to the CPU side, AMD falls behind Intel by a big margin and it will be next to impossible for AMD to make money in 2010.

Good times might start only in 2011, probably toward the end of it, as AMD should be ready to reveal its next generation CPU architecture codenamed Bulldozer. We hope that AMD won't lose too many good people, and the job cut will also affect US operations.

The most amusing thing about the Ruiz news is that the guy at the centre of this insider trading case lost cash on AMD. Clearly whatever information he was getting wasn't worth squat. 😀

As for the jobs news, it may or may not happen. AMD are not gonna let good people go as they have no desperate need of doing so.

This is what AMD paid for: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/ATI-Radeon-HD4650-HD4670,2444.html

It's not just a click-me ad, it's actually a review that AMD paid for.

As long as it's done fairly and clearly marked I don't have an issue. But if it was an Intel "advertorial" the fanboys would go nukcin' futz'.

Yes but isn't the real problem that a well known and "reputable" techsite actually chooses to participate in such a thing? Sure any company may ask reviewers to do stuff like this, and they sometimes do, its up to the reviewers to say no our articles are not for sale...

LRB is gonna be buggy as hell, its not gonna be 100% pure till time and feedback come from the customers... because LRB is going to be Intles first GPU so its gonna take a while till LRB becomes stable.

i konw, i just didn't have anything to say and if i don't respond i lose email notification and then i see the thread a week later with 10 pages more and i have to read all those pages

Sticky .... no you need to leave it as a normal thread so Up can bump something every now and then ...

You should only sticky stuff that has some glue in it.

This is sloppy .... SHS.

Time to move on.

LOL

LOL - wasn't it your idea to sticky this thread, so as to have all the factoids (such as they are) in one convenient place?? 😀

Of course there's a lot of spillover in other threads which do disappear over time (until some n00b revives them 2-3 years from now 😀). However I'd recommend keeping it around for at least a year. What other enthusiast sites have an equivalent thread??

For example, JDJ's constant diggint at Intel graphics could use a little slap with a wet tuna :): Hexus: Clarkdale CPU & GPU Performance

Intel has also augmented the integrated graphics portion of Clarkdale by adding extra execution units and higher clock-speeds when compared to presently-available GMA X4500.

As you can see, Clarkdale graphics are around 50 per cent faster than X4500, according to the Intel-provided numbers, above.

The upshot is 3D perf that is roughly analogous to AMD's 785G's, intimating that you will be able to play basic games at low-ish resolutions.

Not bad for an on-die IGP... Or else admit AMD' IGP's are not exactly 'all that' anymore 😀

Funny thing here.
As they have NO game benchmarks at all, yet make these claims.
Sounds like a few people Ive read before........
Wheres the beef?
The only benches Ive seen are the ones that show it getting half the fps, so I call fanboi BS, not on you fazers, but next time, include benches, not bungholio marks, which I know Intel users love, but gamers.... they know better

PS: This is exactly what people were talking about when Intel "uses" its cpu fpr a couple things, which still leaves it 50% as fast, again, pick a better bench, not ones provided by nVid,,, ooops, Intel

LOL! Well kudos to you, even though your prediction that AFG's thread "Is Intel Doomed" would never get up to the 18 pages yours did, turned out to be wrong. AFG's thread is now up to 21 pages!

I guess AFG is more awesome & legendary than the wondrous Upendra, if ya go by page count anyway! 😀.

BTW, there was a joke thread, "very old computer working" or some such, that went way past either your's or AFG's :)...
