AMD Athlon XP Highest Overclock

What is the highest Overclock that anyone has gotten with thier Athlon XP? I have not tried too hard, but I got my 2500+ to 2.266Ghz on stock cooling, stable.

Also, how would a highly overclocked Athlon XP compare to an Athlon 64 (single core)?
 
The World Record set with AMD's FX-57 and is right at 4GHz.

The World Record set with Intel's 965 series and is around 7.2GHz.

Both are using liquid nitrogen.

AMD's fastest FX single core chips are very hard to overclock much past 3GHz, and AMD's dual core are hard to reach 3GHz, yet Intel's dual core chips usually can reach near or just over 4GHz only using a good air cooling system.
 
he was talking about athlon xp... i think the stock speed for a 3200 is higher than ur overclock... thats a decent oc though, 266 mhz?
 
I have an Athlon XP 3200+ and the default speed is 2200mhz at 400mhz bus. i have a mobo that's really bad for overclocking but i bumped the base frequency (200mhz) up to 209 and got 2300 (wierd thing is it already seemed as though by default it was reading 2230 without overclocking it) I'm on an Abit board that's not really for overclocking, and since I got some USB errors, I just bumped it back down to default speeds.

now i'm an amateur, so I'd still like to see what a real overclocker has to say about the Athlon XP chips.
 
well im not a real overclocker but ive heard that the bartons are fast, but also run pretty damn hot.. i used to have a 2400 though and max temp was like 35C.
 
The stock 2500+ runs at 1.87ghz, so I achieved about a 350mhz OC. I think it can scale far higher, but I need a better CPU cooler, and maybe a northbridge cooler also.

At my current overclock, My Barton based 2500+ is running at about 44 degrees celcius. Under load, it gets up to about 48 sometimes.

For the northbridge cooler, you'll probably just need a heatsink.

well the 2600+ barton and the 2500+ barton are teh same baring teh 2600+ is 11.5 not x11 on the multiplier, Ive had 2.4 gig stable and 2.5gig posting and booting but not stable.

On the 2600+ and with teh xtr vols temps went to about 55-57 load
 
The best Athlon XP overclockers were the "Mobile" Barton versions. Better grade chips, able to withstand higher temperatures and the multipliers came unlocked from the factory. The Abit NF7-S Version 2.0, was the best board to use for overclocking Athlon XPs. Period.

As far as clocks, I've heard of some people in the 2.6-2.7 range. I believe wusy had one that clocked this high if not higher.
 
With some decent DDR-500 in my system, I am able to overclock my Barton 2500+ to 2.5GHz stable. The only reason I haven't pushed it higher is that my 75.9 CFM fan went out, and I am currently using a standard 80mm case fan... Thus my temperatures get too hot for my liking when I get over 2.2GHz.

As to the highest ever, I have no clue. I've seen people take a Barton 2800+ to about 3GHz on ice-water. I really don't know what the record is, though.
 
Yeh, but that with custom waterccoling plus ice chilled water on 1.975V
Just for the sake of Bungholiomarks and all that. 8)

At least it reached into the top10 table of 'normal' Barton records which is what I wanted.

What's the best heatsink for an Athlon XP? How about for a Northbridge?

I know a lot of people who have these processors, and are too poor to buy a new motherboard, power supply, video card, CPU, and soon new ram. Which is why I was wondering about squeezing out every last bit of performance on what I have.
 
I had my Mobile Barton 2500+ running full load 24/7 @ 2.6GHz on entry level watercooling (80mm rad and a weak aquarium pump), that CPU loved voltage, had to shove 2V through it.

I even did some benches at 2775MHz on 2.15V by adding a submersible pump and a bucket of water and ice cubes to my loop. Needless to say, the ice melted a lot faster than I tought it would.

This CPU is still alive and doing fine, I donated it to my dad along with my NF7-S mobo and some memory, it's now running at a cozy 2.1GHz on air.
 
I got my old 2600+ Tbred-B to 2.4gig benchmarkable, on watercooling.

Stock speed was 2.08g/166fsb/12.5multi, took it to 2.4g/200fsb/12multi

Had the vcore at 1.95v tho :)
 
I'm seeing some impressive results here... makes me whish I had the same luck with my barton 2600+. I've had it it running at 2.07 Ghz (11.5x180) with Corsair memory, but not very stable sadly enough. Could be that it's not cooling good enough (~59C idle, 65 load) but most likely it's the mobo that sucks too bad. Unfortunately, QDI does not seem to be a very popular brand among enthusiasts, much because of the quality of their products I imagine. But it looks promising.. I'm thinking maybe my Athlon XP has yet some more to give. And besides, it's good to know AGP is not entirely dead as Gainward just released their monstrous 7800GS+ which is supposed to be a devilish 7800 GTX in disguise!

Perhaps I could endure waiting for Conroe... after all, s939 is still to pricey for me anyways.
 
I had a barton 2500+ running at 2400mhz 24/7 on the stock amd cooler, all i did was to flat the cooler and used coolermaster shin itzu heatsink paste, ran it on stock voltage too, had it on a Gigabyte GA-7N400-Pro2 mobo, had 1gb of corsair extreme in there, really hate the twat who stole that baby.... I was just waiting for the money to buy a watercooling system so that i could take it up to 2600mhz (that was my target).

Now I had to borrow money from the bank to be able to afford my new pc (see sig) and funnily enough, everything is still running stock speeds... I'm waiting for the coldest part of winter here, so that i can bump it up a bit... :)
 
I think I am going to try to unlock my 2500+ by connecting the L5 bridges. Right now I think I am being limited by my motherboard, an Asus A7v600-X. Speaking of, what is the best motherboard for overclocking? It may be a nice and cheap upgrade to squeeze the last of the power out of this current system.
 
I had an Athlon XP 2600+ (Barton) 1,65 V, 1919 MHz stock. I hit a wall with ther motherboard (Asus A7N8X-E) at 1,85 V and 2557 MHz. The performance was great, I think that it was actualy way better than my Athlon 64 3000+ stock (1.8 GHz). I used a ThermalTake Volcano 12. It´s surely loud, but it cools it like a champion.
Of course, with higher clocks models I don´t know what could happen... surely mi Venice at 2500 MHz is faster.
