I am looking for a cooling fan for my AMD Athlon XP 1800. Right now I am running the Slim Volcano 8 SE. I was wondering if there was another cooling fan better than the one I am running right now? Any suggestions and recommendations on which one to go with? Any help would be greatly apprecaited. Thanks in advance.

Eric

No idea how good the volcano is...my 1800 in my 2nd machine runs very hot...just chucked a coolermaster thing (cant remember the name at present - but has an adjustable fan and only caost £12 + cools up to a 2800) temp has drop from 69 to 44ish. id say that would be worth while...especially for the money.

Or you can also try Volcano 7+, the best Thermaltake Volcano line HSF, it's better than 9, and 11/11+.

If I agree with you... will you shut up?

..but on Max speed it does sound like a jet taking off in a hurricane...

But I agree - it is good at cooling, even on low fan speed.(much more bareable, but still far from silent)

Well, there is some price to pay for good cooling, think of the Delta fan, Tornado fan etc, all of them are f**king loud. IMHO, there is no silent cooling if you want to aircool an overclocked system.

But he doesn't say anything about Ocing, so I assume he's not going to - it is a good HSF though - I own one myself. Just thought I'd mention it is loud as hell.

Sure it's as loud as hell, I'm using one on full power now to cool my oc'ed 2600+
Thermaltake has updated compatibility for Volcano 7+ a few time, now it's rated at 3400+ for SocketA, same as Volcano 9 and 11/11+.
Well, if silent is the only target, Zalman has decent silent cooler.
