MOBO: MSI 970 Gaming
CPU: AMD FX8350 Black Edition
PSU: Corsair AX860i-Modular
RAM: HyperX-FURY 8GB
I already have R9 380X Graphics card but I might upgrade later.

CPU would be watercooled with H100 or H110.

What do you think about this kind of budget but I would like to believe powerful and reliable setup?

I am planning buying parts gradually. Like mobo and CPU first, then case and psu.

Do you have suggestions? Is it legit or should I start with i5 4690k and Z97 mobo for example. I can't decide, but I really feel I want to try that 8 core AMD build :) Thanks in advance!

i5 4460 @3,2ghz is better than amd fx 9590 @5.0ghz. So here's your 8 core AMD power. Don't buy that, i had it and it was the worse decission ever. Go with intel. You can grab cheaper PSU aswell, don't really need Platinum, gold is more than enough. Or you can go with skylake i5.

I agree with G-star on some points. The FX-8350 isn't a bad chip, but the problem is it has to try harder, consume more power, and likely need a solid OC to compete with the mid to upper range i5's.

The FX-8350 is around $170US (125W), an i5-6500 for $200US (65W).
A good board for the FX is in the $75-90 range vs a Skylake board in the $100 range.

It would be a very rare situation (and certainly not gaming) where you could take advantage of the 8 cores of the FX, and they're not particularly efficient cores at that.

If you want to go with AMD, I'd wait for their Zen processors and try AMD out then. It won't be released until October though.

I like AMD, I really do. I hope they can fix themselves, as Intel with Skylake (even the Haswell/Refresh) are miles ahead currently.

Or you can go with i5 4690K Z87/97 mobo and OC it :D No point in going with AMD because it has extremely weak single core performance(and that's what counts for gaming and 3/4 of other stuff). You can OC FX 8350 as much as you want and you still wont be able to compete with stock i5's. By the looks of it, intel will always be miles ahead of AMD.

Go with cheaper Cooler(Noctua NH-d14/15, cryorig r1 ultimate, phanteks PH-TC14-PE) they all beat AIO 240mm coolers and are quieter and cheaper!. And save some cash on psu and maybe you have enough for 4790K and some basic z87/z97 motherboard for an easy OC to 4,5-4,6ghz. You will never need more than that, because it's a beast CPU. When I went from FX 8350 to 4790K I got 40fps+ on BF4 and in every other game was a huge difference.

Thank you all for response! Another problem while on the side of 4690k. I just can't decide on the mobo. So much choice!!! All research came down to z97 PRO. Do you aprove this mobo?

These 4 coolers that i wrote down, perform almost indentical as 240mm AIO's in some cases even better. But make sure you have enough space in your case and they are also cheaper, quieter and more reliable. Which motherboard exactly?

No it is not

More often than not the FX 8350 is beating the i5 6600k
The exception is gaming and even then the FX can make more fps than a 60 Hz monitor can display anyway . Meaning the intel is more likely to screen tear but other than that the experience of the user will be the same

I would not buy a haswell based computer at this time . The industry is moving to better manufacturing processes and DDR4 .
For this reason its also not a great idea to build a current generation AMD FX build [ unless you carefully control the budget]

IM build using an intel skylake and a Z170 board with DDR4 . That is the most up to date option and will not be much more expensive

It would be nice yes then i could finally get 5960X if the price drops.

It all depends on how a specific game is made. We should never classify "games" as a category of performance comparison between CPU, because it depends on the individual game and how it's programmed. "Games" ranges from Roller Coaster Tycoon which can run on an ATM machine to AAA heavy games. And even comparing AAA games to one another, it all depends on how those specific games are programmed.

I'll give one final warning here and then I'll start passing out forum bans.

This public AMD vs Intel nonsense will stop now (feel free to continue this privately in PMs, though). Answer the OP's question and nothing else. If the OP asks someone else a question, DO NOT REPSPOND IN KIND. If the OP asks you a specific question, answer that question AND ONLY that question.

Consider this a final warning to all parties involved here (even those who just got here).

I think the value depreciates , but intel never discount the price

Hey guys just thought I would throw my inexperienced pennies worth....

Iv been running a fx 8350 for a year now in my first pc build. I do feel that it holds back my r9 290x and that I should have gone with an i5.

That being said..... I was wondering if anyone here thought that things may change with dx12???

Like I say I'm pretty inexperienced in all this just trying to learn wondered what you guys think????

The i5 is a better choice but besides that be careful on your motherboard pick if you're going AMD. The 970 chip set is not very good with the 8350, you'd want to purchase a more expensive motherboard with the 990FX chip set.
