Another possibility is that the specs are just flat out deceptive? I remember back in the day when certain games would ask for, say, a 1200mhz cpu minimum, I could still get them running perfectly fine on an old 800mhz AMD (yes I know these extra clocks are nothing in todays hardware, but back in the late 90's early 2000's, they were a big deal). Perhaps it is all hand holding with the CPU makers to try and push sales?
It doesn't really make sense to me either, hence why I am throwing possibilities out there. I thought that, normally, sloppy/outdated coding didn't take advantage of extra cores? Hence why you used to see dual cores being less competent than single core in games, dual better than quad, and so on.
