I thought that they were going to delay due to yield problems. I still haven't seen any 4730s or 4790s and there is still inventory of 4800 series cards out there. I wonder if AMD will really launch next month, but I sure would like it if they do. Looks like the time is coming when I'll finally replace my two 3850s.

[citation][nom]Cryogenic[/nom]DirectX 11 is the most anticipated directx version by me ever. It's about time to show some PC muscles to all those console gamers, and about time for a PC comeback ...[/citation]

As wonderful as that sounds it will have nothing to do with DX11. Quality titles and lots of them would help, along with hardware that was more easily attainable/useable/appropriate for the masses. Don't forget that DX10 was supposed to be fantastic and the very few titles released under it were all just as good in DX9.

[citation][nom]JeanLuc[/nom]DX11 games have been in development for a long time the first DX11 games are due out before the end of the year and the show piece DX11 title Starcraft 2 due Q1 2010.[/citation]

No, no, no. Crysis was under development (along with the first Call of Juarez and Lost Planet) as a DX10 title. The first gen of DX10 hardware couldn't run the games well and overall it wasn't worth the premium. DX11 games might have been in development but it doesn't mean they are good, or that they're not going to be more concerned with reaching a mass audience. StarCraft 2 will be as graphically sub-par as every other Blizzard release just so that it will be playable on EVERYTHING under the sun. At the most you'll get some stupid particle/lighting/stupid effect that no one cares about. Plus, it won't be out in Q1 of 2010. The chances of even having a SOLID StarCraft 2 release date by Q1 2010 are worse than the chances I'll sprout wings and fly away after winning the Powerball lottery.

[citation][nom]jj463rd[/nom]Did you check out the new upcoming Catalyst 9.8 drivers? Big news there (gaming improvements) with an AMD CPU combined with their graphics cards.[/citation]

You want to really see gaming improvements with your CPU? Buy an i7.

I, also am waiting to see what the 5xxx series holds for us.. I will be upgrading my 8800gt. It is a good card.. but I fell it is starting to show it's age a bit in some games i play

tempting rambo, seriously I was going to get something to let me play till december time, but now, things have changed, no point in getting old tech ;D

The directx 10 and especially ATI's directx 10.1 will surely be able to run all directx 11 titles, which surely will be backward compatible with directx 10 for marketing reasons.

Also, performance wise, I'm sure that mid range - high end cards from both ati / nvidia will be great for at least a year or two.

I'm excited. I dunno about anyone else, but I am. 😛

I have done several searches for "evergreen" and got a load of nothing. They're playing this one close to the chest. And the closer they keep the info the more I expect this card to decimate the market. However I could be wrong, either way it will still be an upgrade from my hd 3870 when i get the dough to shell out for this "evergreen" card. anywho. sept=early xmas for a lot of us!

[citation][nom]meatwad53186[/nom]Damnit haha. Just my luck... looks like I should return that brand new 4890 that should arrive at my house on wednesday and wait just a little longer.[/citation]

Damnit, I just bought a 4890 also lol.

damnit😛, i understand though... well, guess its time to bring up craigslist.

hopefully we will see some powerful 40nm cards? been looking for something to replace my 8800GT, that is something that is more powerful but isn't 10 miles long and uses 50 jigawatts of power!

Even if it's just an extension of the 4800 series, ie: 1000 or 1200 stream processors, up from 800SPs@55nm ... The 5800 series should still be excellent. Of course, I'd still expect some kind of evolutionary improvements...

cant wait, its been said that evergreen is the biggest conceptual change since r600, these should be some powerfull cards, since ive heard theyll come with 1200sps

If these cards have the same yield problems encountered by 4770 by going 40nm, then it would surely come with a premium price due to high demand. Hopefully, that isn't the case. Looking forward to a Tom's full review once it is released.

[citation][nom]mlopinto2k1[/nom]Hope AMD is releasing a card that actually MAKES A DIFFERENCE. Uggh[/citation]
The HD 4xxx series was a pretty substantial release at the price points they were offered at. I remember how overpriced the new generation of hardware for the Nvidia camp was. Then a matter of days after the HD 4xxx release we saw prices slashed by as much as 40 percent - man was that a hard kick to the early purchasers of those cards. So yeah, they made a difference alright, best bang for the buck and a huge win for the consumer (and a huge blow to the big N's profit margins).

The next generation is a definite welcome, a year is more than enough waiting for me.

FINALLY!!!! God I can't wait to see the performance of these new cards. Maybe nvidia will stop ripping people off for the GTX285 after this! =-o

I hope they aren't SUPER expensive... Time to start saving my moneys!!

nice cant wait to see what they do, but i will wait to see what Nvidia puts out see witch is better and wait for the price war to start, be to expensive with a no competition in dx11. still keep my 8800gt as a physics car, it been to good to get ride of.

your physics car has been too good to ride??

...what...?

sorry had to

*Sigh*... sheesh; fanboys...

And ontopic: I wonder if the nice trend that came with the 4770s will continue onto the new DX11 series of cards? Although I do not expect real mainstream products (AKA 5770 and-the-likle) until Easter 🙁

I just bought a XFX 4870 1GB... (Newegg just shipped it today)

Thus, I hope we can xfire 5xxx and 48xx series together (such as we can xfire all the 48xx together) half decently... (or even at all would be nice)

I wonder how much a dx11 card would lower the prices for current ones? I just purchased an 4830 for a friend's 30ths birthsday ... it'll be 'junk level' if a new card is launched next month! (assuming a new card is an improvement similar to the 4800 over the 3800)
