AMD FX 4100 vs Phenom II x4 965?

I've come across 2 AMD processors that I'm considering using in my computer: the "AMD FX 4100" and the "Phenom II x4 965". The FX 4100 is about 20 bucks cheaper than the Phenom, which struck me as odd because the FX 4100 runs at 3.6 Ghz with quad core, while the Phenom has 3.4 Ghz with quad core. So, is there any real drawback to the FX 4100. I'm going to be using the computer for editing videos (mainly in After Effects), photos, as well as using it for everyday tasks (ie surfing the web, doing homework, etc).

Which processor will serve me better for my needs (please note that I'm not a very intense video/photo editor, I only do that a few hours a week)?

Hey sorry its taking me a lot longer to post my results but i have not completed my tests yet. Had a few setbacks. H80 pump broke 🙁 luckily I held on to my CNPS 9900 . Now the 965 vs 4100 things ive noticed while running a couple tests and doing overclocks. Windows 7 gave a .1 better score for the 965. but in the Performance test 7.0 the 4100 scored 1k more points stock and almost 2k more points OC'ed. Overclocking the 4100 is a walk in the park i got it to 4.5ghz and stll didnt reach the 1.5v mark im guessing it can go to 5ghz no problem. I should have all my tests complete by friday. but there is a high chance my 965 will be going on ebay this weekend and ill be visiting frys to pick up the 4100. if the 4100 will work with windows 8 like amd says its def a better buy!

no need to fight about it, just make sure you got am3+ mobo and get fx-4100 or the phenom ii x4 whichever you can grab right now but if you are still having trouble thinking about it, toss a coin, i do it once in a while if i can't decide on something i want to buy

I own the FX-4100 and so far i am impressed with it, it can play MW3 on full 1080p at 45 fps with the XFX Radeon 6770.

and i can run a mile in 10 minutes

ops ahahaha sorry i didn't mean it that way, i was talking about the thoughts of which one to get if your in front of the stall/store, or just a click away from buying online, flip a coin = solves it easily,

same when i was buying pizza i had 4 flavors i like flipped 2 coin until 2 flavors are left then there we go ^_^..

im pretty sure it is safe to say that everything you said in reality is the exact opposite or just wrong.

1: intel has a large lead not slight
2: the fx cpu's dont blow anything out of water but themselves, they are a huge disappointment and on par with the phenom family
3: if they can multitask well how come an i5 2500k is just as good in rendering as the 8150? http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/434?vs=288
4: a phenom x4 is still the best bang for your buck not fx cpu is a better buy for gaming.

6: the i7 2600k is better then the 8150 is basically everything and they both have the same amount of threads.

yeah, the fx4110 may fall behind in benchmarks, but puuls ahead in games (as most arnt very cpu intensive.) the few that are still run amazingly well. way better value, plus the same motherboard ccan be used with piledriver and steamroller.


edit: it pulls ahead compared to a phenom at same clock speed. still cant dethrone 2500k
