What's the spec's on the 2600k system other then running at a 600mhz decrease in speed?

One of the systems I am comparing to is as follows:

Intel i7-2600k @3.4 Ghz
Gigabyte Z68X-UD7-B3
16367 MB RAM @1600
AMD Radeon 6900 Series GPU
PSU UNKNOWN

CPU performance Score: 3393

My system:

AMD FX6100 @4.01 Ghz
MSI 990FXA-G65
16354 MB RAM @1600

CPU Performance Score: 3300

So if I understand what your saying is a overclock FX6100 can match a stock 2600k i'm I right on this?

if Mathiesin has overclocked with his stock cooler..i can say fx 6100 is good..but i heard that ivy bridge is going to be realeased in q2 of 2012 ..im thinking thati can wait for ivy bridge to arrive which is only 4 months from now..

1)Now just out of pure curiosity can you overclock your FX6100 just enough to match the 2600k and tell us what the overclock speed is?

2)can you overclock your FX6100 to it's max and tell us what you achieved on a stable overclock?

Thank You in advance.

You should assume that I am someone who cares about the truth of the matter when it comes to computing.

Overclocking FX6100 at 4.2 puts me on par with i7-2600k, but keep in mind that my processor is sitting at 28 C, so it will probably go up to 29 C. That leaves a lot of head room, not to mention Hyper Transport 3.0 adjustments. There are quite a few factors to be aware of, that make this build comparable to i7-2600k, for instance I have liquid cooling for my system, thus giving me an edge with temps etc etc.

Memory timings sitting at 7-7-7-10 16Gb (I know I should be using 8 Gb for gaming, however I also do 3D rendering)
V-Core 1.2v
DRAM 1.66v
HT out-in 16bit
High-end Mobo tend to have FAR more stability with the capability of allowing auto to pilot the rest of the voltages
( NOT PREFERRED HOWEVER, THE SYSTEM IS EXTREMELY STABLE AT LOW VOLTAGES )

i have a athlon 64 x2 7750@2.7ghz and got 1471.9 score in passmark 7
difference between 7750 and fx6 are
mine
2 core
2.7ghz
65nm
and yours
6 core
4.2ghz
32nm
so comparing the results as a dual core looks like mine processor performed better than fx6

what do you think
mathiesin

Ok what's your maximum overclock for your liquid cooled system?

It doesnt work in the sense of doubling up the possibility of a your dual core being a quad-core, each processor has a specific algorithm specifically for it architecture. So with that said if your processor was a quad core 2.7 Ghz and the algorithm was similar ( saying you stayed in your CPU's Family ) you may only bounce up 200 points. Each family is scored according to how the architecture performs and then given a Universal Score to compare against.

I will say that you scored pretty well for a dual core ^_^

To answer your question, yes it can, however no matter what single thread operations take a hit regardless, but on multi-thread this processor is a beast. Keep in mind that no Micro coding is complete on this CPU, and the standard coding hasn't been updated, so all of this WILL change.

***The first release for Windows 7 will produce 10%+ performance boost***

I haven't hit my maximum yet, so far my CPU is 5.0 Ghz 37C Prime 95 takes me up to 52C so i still have room to work with,
My RAM hits 1866 so its hard to say where the roof is...

If I Increase my Fans speeds past 1000RPM's I could substantially drop all Temps by 3C or 4C

Give me your best.

have you checked the online score of fx6 , it is 5802
but yours is only at 3300
and for i7 it is 8967 but yours is at 3400
looks like you have got the defective pieces
or you haven't updated your bios

The score sI listed were Proc Score not system scores which are as follows:

i7-2600k - 3400
FX6100 - 3300

Now looking CPU Mark I see the following
i7-2600k - 9300 (3.4Ghz)
FX6100 - 8044 (4.2Ghz)

I also want to address that i am not trying to beat the i7-2600k, I am simply WANTING TO GET CLOSE, that is all, I don't feel I could beat the i7-2600k unless I stayed at 5.0Ghz. the i7-2600k is an incredible processor with tons of power to boot, and it really is the cream of the crop; all i wanted to do was take an underdog and get it close.

With that new update, i may be able to stand on the i7-2600k's legs LOL I just wanted to point out the potential, FOCUS on potential.

LISTEN UP, Anyone that can get 7000+ Score on this Processor your doing Faaantastic, there is so much more potential, and for the price comparison, it can't be ignored! Just remember its a new processor, and all the extra performance will come, look what Intel did with the Sandy Bridge, it was huge bust, now its a beast.

SO to Answer the Original Thread, FX6100 when O.C. correctly WILL beat the i7-2500k
And it gets very close to the i7-2600k

(AMD Overclocked their FX8150, and set a Book of Guiness World Record at a core clock 8.4 Ghz!!!

5g
it is too high
can you submit your scores here
tomshardware.com/forum/261868-29-overclocking-club
also try a bios update sometime

What???????
My 2500k hits 4.3 with just the touch of the OC tuner, with tweaking it goes 4.5. AND thats not unusual

So, in a nutshell, you're saying that an heavily overclocked, watercooled Bd can match a 2500k. I can accept that  :pt1cable:
