So i was basically stuck between the 477k and the expensive 3970X. i decided to go with the 4770k since it is way cheaper and i could spend more money on getting premium components for my PC.

That was until i found about this AMD FX 8150 processor. which is eight core and much more cheaper than the 4770k. So this is my question, is this AMD eight core processor good to go? will it give me better performance compared to the 4770k? as far as my knowledge goes, the FX 8150 has more cores so it should beat 4770k, right? or not? also, with the FX 8150, i'll get more Ghz, because i'll have extra money left for overclocking.

Please tell me if the AMD fx 8150 is really better over the 477k. if not, then in which ways?? Also, will it bottle-neck my TITAN 3 way SLI? i have a 5760 x 1200 screen.

no way, the 4770K is still better for gaming.

although you don't actually need the hyperthreading. if you're just gaming, an i5 4670K will basically give you the same performance as the more expensive CPUs

also you bought 3 Titans and don't want to spend the cash on a proper CPU to drive the machine 😵
that aside, do your research on the motherboard, you want at least three PCIe x8 3.0 slots for your three titans (and honestly three 780s will give you the same performance)

The AMD FX8150 is a great processor. No it will not beat the Intels. But dollar for dollar it's a great performer and great 990fX based motherboards are cheaper than the equivalent intels.

Just because it has 8 cores doesn't make it faster. Few programs take advantage of 8 cores. And core for core the Intels are faster. So lets say your encoding video or something, the Intel will be faster. But for everyday computing, office, browsing the net, even playing games, you won't notice much difference. You can overclock the AMD easily as well.

With the money saved you can get yourself a nice SSD which makes all the difference in the world. I would never hesitate to go AMD with a gaming build. Unless money was no object and I jsut wanted the best of the best then I would go for the I7 and a $400 motherboard.

Did you mean the FX-8350 instead of the FX-8150? The FX-8350 is better than the FX-8150.

With regards to the FX-8350 vs. the i7-4770k... If your main concern is playing games then should drop the i7-4770k in consideration of the i5-4670k. The main difference is that Core i5-4670k lacks HyperThreading which is not used in games. It is less expensive than the i7 so you can either pocket that money or spend it on other parts.

Between the FX-8350 and i5-4670k, you will want the i5. The only good thing about the FX-8350 is that it has 8 cores and it is generally cheaper than the i5-4670k. However, most games do not use more than 4 cores. In fact, the vast majority of games in general only uses 2 cores. Of course, games built using specific game engines like FrostBite or CryEngine 3 can make use of more than 2 cores.

Also check the speed of the PCIe ports on the board. The AMD FX chips and the Intel Z series I believe have 16x across the PCIe slots while other chipsets give 8x across them. Not sure how accurate my information is and also it supposedly doesn't make a heck of lot of difference performance wise. However any board that has the 3 slots should be good to go.

I guess the consensus is the Intel is definitely better, however the AMD is still a solid CPU for gaming and a great value considering the cost of the CPU and motherboard combo.

no its not that man, if i bought three titans doesn't mean i have a heap of money. my rig shouldn't exceed my budget, that is $5000 maximum. i already spent nearly $3900 on getting three titans. that's why, i cant get an expensive cpu like the 3970x or something. i also have to save money for getting a decent liquid cooling system, and memory too. believe me i'm really tight on my budget right now.

So according to you all, i guess the 4770k is better and i'll most probably get this one. thanks for giving me your'e time! it really helps. with my previous gtx 680 and i3 setup, when playing FARCRY 3 one maxed out settings, i got an amazing 7-9 fps on my 5760 x 1200 screen. i hope my new rig can handle games better.

maybe. but three titans do make sense for a 5760 x 1200 display. really, with my older pc, i had a lot of problems with this massive screen. also, a single titan, on 5760 x 1200, cant handle Tomb Rider with 'TressFX' on. you get an average fps of 25. so i guess three titans wont be overkill.

$3900 worth of cards! Must be nice. Drools!

That display is nice and hopefully those cards will last you for four to five years. Even if they last you five then you have spent $780 per year for your display 🙁
