i have an old and able fx 6300 rig and i want to further oc it for knowledge purposes only to help others here in the forum....
my question is which technique is better when overclocking the FX cpus when "Gaming?" - Disable 1 core per/ module (3modules/3 weak cores active) and increase the Ghz speed? (less voltage and heat) or Disable 1 whole module? (2modules/4 weak cores active) and increase the Ghz speed?

note: that "some" modern games still cannot utilize 6 cpu cores and we need Direct X12 to utilize more of that cores, so let us stick with 4 core for now.

I would suggest you build a comparison of performance results on several methods and assess the results from there. Be sure to share with us here.
I've done testing. It makes absolutely zero difference in benchmarks, games, and applications. The resources are still split on the dye, regardless if you turn off certain cores.

Overclocking to 4.8Ghz + is the best way to unlock the FX' potential. Using a combination of Northbridge and multiplier increases singlethread performance nicely.

i think i need more proof coz ive been to many forums , research here and there and they are reporting that disabling some of the unused cores + an overclock(fsb) can increase performance without the added voltage and heat going in....
pls don't take this personal but i checked your rankings and i think i need more proof:) , but thanks also for your opinion tho, really appreciate it

yet whot you both missing is we stuck gone sideways on cpu speed has they cantbreak that 5 barrier and gone with multi cores sadly we been like this a good few yrs and getting bigger cpu has stopped untill they find that right mixture to use to once more forth were broke the cpu barriers

Of course there's less heat and voltage needed, the CPU is working less. That does not equate to performance.

That's fine! I went through the same thing too hoping it would increase performance too. I was disappointed it didn't. Good luck!
