AMD FX6300 or i3 6100?

Solution

looks like a nice little build, go for a 2x4gb RAM...
Take a look at this page: http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-Core-i3-6100-vs-AMD-FX-6300

This give you a blow by blow account of where each processor excels.

The I3 is the faster chip by a large margin, but the AMD has 3 times as many cores, making up for the lower performance.

Overall, I'd say the I3 comes up on top, but if you upgrade after that, you'll likely need a new motherboard. If you go for the 6300, you can upgrade to the top-tier AMD chips, on the same MOBO.

Another i3 vote.

CPU upgrade is generally a mythic vision that few choose. I would not let that influence me.

The FX 6300 is about as good as it gets for gaming; there is no meaningful AMD upgrade.
The i3 is more modern and mostly as fast or faster than the FX 6300, even when overclocked, in actual game performance. (Does depend to a certain extent on which games you play)

An i5 would be a better choice than either.

just to reiterate what others have been saying, the I3 will give you much better performace in games like League of legends and WOW games that run off single core processing power but there will be very little difference between the 2 FPS wise while playing games like Fall out 4 and GTA V. also what you need to take into consideration is that as other have said the I3 offers a fantastic update path while the FX series is a dead line.

This type of build can do light gaming?

MSI B150A Gaming Pro
i3 6100
1x8gb ram ddr4 2133mhz kingston black
corsair s550 psu watts

Looks great, just add a discrete video card.

You might choose to go for 2x 4GB DDR4 instead, as it will give slightly higher performance.

looks like a nice little build, go for a 2x4gb RAM setup as it works better in a Dual channel setup, also be careful with Corsair power supplies some of them are really low quality, for this setup you could look at something from Superflower or xfx both of these are amazing brands and offer really high quality PSU's for really good prices.

my vcard sucks, tt's an R7 240 1gb ddr5 boost sapphire edition 😀

ahhhh thankssss

Go with i3, you can upgrade later whereas with FX 6300 you're not going to gain much on a deadend socket (and AM4 is around the corner).

You'll want two memory sticks in order to take advantage of the memory bandwidth, so go with what Hawkshot said.

Although 2 x 4 is a bit faster than 1 x8, you may not notice in actual use. Here's some benchmarks I collected for an Science Fair project.
