Hey guys, new here and just reaching out for answers as I am at the end of my rope...
Acer X223w LCD monitor
Philips 32PFL3506

Brand new Dell XPS 8300 desktop
Intel core i7-2600 CPU
8 gigs DDR3 1333MHz ram
AMD radeon HD 6670

Here's my situation. I have a 22 inch flatscreen Acer LCD display as my main monitor. I use the DVI out of the video card to the DVI in on the monitor. No issues with that at all.

If I plug the Philips LCD HDTV into the HDMI port with a HDMI cable, The catalyst control center will recognize the TV. However I get no output on the screen.

I have a DVI to HDMI adapter that I plug into the DVI port on the video card, then plug the HDMI cable from the TV into that and everything works perfectly. All HD resolutions etc. Only issue is no sound from the TV speakers of course.

I also have a HDMI to DVI cable. When plugging in the Acer display to the HDMI port using the adapter cable everything works fine.

I have a dell laptop with integrated graphics. The HDMI output to the TV works perfectly. I have also tried 3 different HDMI cables just to make sure and they all work on the laptop, but no the desktop.

I have tried every combination of adapters and cables I can think of, but I cant get the displays to work properly (eg, HDTV directly to HDMI output, while also the DVI connected to the Acer monitor). I have tried using older catalyst drivers AND newer beta drivers with no luck. I know the TV can accept HDMI from a PC because it works fine on my laptop. That also eliminates the cables (all 3 work fine with the laptop). I've also made sure the TV's firmware is up to date.

If anyone has any ideas it would be greatly appreciated.

if the CCC sees the TV when it's plugged into the hdmi port, I'd expect it would work... maybe there is some hdtv related settings in ccc that needs tweaking...

edit: or maybe theres something in the windows' display settings.
You are quite sure theres no image what-so-ever, rather than just black background showing, it might be all black if the windows' display settings are set to something 'funny' (happened to me once)

I am certain the is no output to the TV. The TV displays HDMI1 in the corner constantly as if searching for signal. Also the TV will turn itself off after 5 mins or so because it is not detecting any signal.

I have researched as much as I can around the web and I have seen people mention certain models of radeon have problems with Philips HDTVs. Hopefully this is not the case, I chose to drop some extra coin to upgrade the vid card for home theater use.

I've tried changing resolutions to everything under the sun (both HDTV and 'normal' computer resolutions). Also tried changing the pixel formats with no luck.

What really puzzles me is that when plugged directly into the HDMI port the TV is reconized as "Philips" in the CCC but has no output to the TV. However when I use the DVI to HDMI adapter and plug the TV into that everything works perfectly.

I guess I could leave the setup the way I have it now... But there is no need to use an adapter on BOTH displays just to make things work. I would also like to use the sound output on the TV as I do when my laptop is hooked up.

It seems to be a driver/AMD hardware issue i think.

well it sure is weird...

when it's connected with hdmi, does it show up in the available/enabled sound devices as 'AMD hdmi output' in the windows' sound settings? Maybe it's getting a disabled signal through the sound channel and ignores the image as well. Naturally this wouldn't happen with the dvi-hdmi adapter. Disclaimer: I have no idea if such a signal exist, probably it doesn't.. :p

my guess as well would first be the drivers as that is the programming that upgrades functions of your graphics card. If you have the newest drivers maybe try rolling back to a previous version (device manager in hardware and sounds for vista/win7 idk remember xp to well but should be similar). That is if you had a previous version installed. Although it could be your TV that would require me to know the model # and version of your LCD yet I doubt that is the case unless it is specifically an phillips only issue. I have never owned a philips tv I only buy samsung/lg tbh. Before you try that though go to google and type the driver version you have and issues with phillips LCD HDTV that will probably get you a more specific answer to know if it is a driver issue hope that helps.

Edit: Were you saying the hdmi to dvi allows it to work or you get a signal. Because then it could be the dvi to hdmi adapter.

I think you mis-read my original post. I tried to make it as clear as possible but its hard to follow i know.

I also mentioned i tried rolling back the drivers to 11.1 and also tried the beta 12.2 drivers along with the current 12.1

Kari is does indeed show up as AMD HDMI output in the sound manager. IT is really strange the computer tells me everything is fine and recognized but there is no signal to the TV. Yet HDMI from my laptop works perfectly. It has to be the video card at this point.

I also stated the model numbers of both the Acer monitor and Philips HDTV in the original post.

I want to clarify this a bit. The 'amd hdmi output' will be listed in the sound devices even when there's nothing connected into the hdmi port. The sound device is integrated into the graphics card, and shows up when the card is installed and up'n'running. It will not be enabled or in use however (no green tick next to the icon).
It should get enabled and ticked automatically when the tv is plugged in. You can also manually enable it. It would be really weird if sound got through to the tv but not the image... and also funny :ange:

Alright i just created an account to reply to this thread.. i have the radeon 6670 in my htpc and when i use the hdmi to connect to my 42" toshiba i have the exact same issue, however it works flawlessly on my hybrid hannspree in both tv and monitor mode. have we decided its a lost cause or did you find a solution? cause i'm about to throw this thing through the tv

except i should add the dvi to hdmi adapter doesn't even work for me, was really rooting for that one after i saw your post

Windows button + P -> Extend Desktop / Clone Desktop.

If that doesn't work, you can go into CCC and put the "Advanced View" to have all the options there. Also, there's another way to do this: in the tray bar area (bottom right) look for the Catalyst icon and right click it. Select the SECOND Radeon 6670 listed and in the quick menu use the "Extend" option.

If none of that works out, take some screenshots of the CCC configuration and post them here.

Cheers!

EDIT: lil' letter

if you were referring to my post also, i should have clarified, i am only trying to use hdmi to hdtv as a primary, no secondary monitors. and i am only trying to receive video, i have optical audio out to my receiver

And the HTPC you built/bought just has the discrete Video card's HDMI ports, right?

Sometimes, when using a CPU with video in it, motherboards use it as default instead of the discrete video card. If you have another HDMI connector coming from the motherboard, use that first and see if it works. You'll have to tell the UEFI/BIOS to use the discrete card instead of the "on-CPU" one.

Also, your TV has the correct HDMI port selected for use in the screen, right?

If neither of them is the case, then you have a faulty video card; it's not out of the scope, since it's in single display mode.

Cheers!

yah, i've used the discrete on several monitors and a couple DLP hdtvs flawlessy, then nothing from what happened to be my own toshiba lcd 1080p, and i've tried every hz setting and tweaking ccc, but no luck, however vga works but i didn't pay 550 for 1024x768 soo is it even possible that a gpu and tv simply cannot interact via hdmi?

toshiba 42hl167

ms update found no drivers and i couldn't google find a driver for it, right now i have generic PnP monitor driver, with tsb-tv showing under windows and ccc displays

i looked through the user manual and aligned the supported hz and color bit settings and still nothing.. additionally.. the tv is showing "no video signal" not "unsupported resolution"

frustrating.. theres no techincal reason i can think of behind this.. and i know the hdmi cable is fully functional..

hahaha okay, this is the veirdest thing i've seen in awhile, i'm confused even thinking about typing it down but i had to share the "solution"

So i have two different types of hdmi cables 1) china-made black 2) two identical with ethernet that came bundled with cheetah wall mounts

I was using 1 of the ethernet ones perfectly with my monitor when i used the same hdmi cable to hook to my tv,

then suddenly the 'no video' extravaganza started, and since i've had a perfect history with this cable that never came into my consideration.

then after giving up, i used the same hdmi to hook back up to my original monitor, then suddenly no video signal, on what originally worked great, so for a bit i was like oh *** the video card went out and after reinstalling drivers still nothing,

so i switched the china hdmi cable from my desktop to my htpc, and viola.. it works, i'm like hmm wth? but yay of course.
then the ethernet hdmi didn't work on my desktop either, so i'm like wow this cable just happened to die in the time i originally switched from monitor to my toshiba lcd.

so i used my other ethernet hdmi to hook up to tv and PERFECT, works like a charm..

however here's the weird thing,
the other ethernet hdmi that suddenly didnt work with either pc works flawlessy with my direct-tv box.....

wtf mate.... lol

Did you try adjusting your resolution when you can see the display on your monitor. Sometimes windows does not detect/identify the resolution needed to display or even the proper display defnition.
