It came in 2004-2006. Then intel came out with core 2. AMD never surpassed 50% market share.

And if what you are saying is true, then Intel is currently in the position to "overrun the market and monopolize the industry".

I did read the whole article, and for the past 2 years he's been a sales flunky at nvidia.
 
Kelemvor4 was merely pointing out that this guy was a manager, not a creator. Unless he also invented Ageia as a developer, all AMD got was a "manager;" maybe a good one, but that isn't going to turn up the next great thing from them, just bring it to market maybe with a great explanation of why you [should] want to buy it.
 
I have a suspicion that the GPU core will somehow enable the CPU core in Fusion to be much much faster then current processors, yet the GPU core will not replace your graphics card or MB based solution.

 
I think this guy's job is going to be integrating havok into the amd video cards like nvidia did with ageia. I remember hearing a few months ago that amd was working with havok to do the same thing that nvidia was doing with their cuda tech. Anyone who's seen the havok cloth demo knows that it pwnz physx bad. If amd is able to draw the driving force behind cuda to their side of the fence then I would surmise that's what hes going to be doing.

WTF you been doing for the past two years? Working for a Fortune 1000 company?
 
I think that Fusion in the presence of a discrete graphics card will be used as either 2D/2.5D only graphics, or a FPU for the CPU cores present. Perhaps a first stage FPU before utilizing the discrete GPUs for OpenCL/Direct Compute workloads... If this former Nvidia insider can help market this tech to software developers/companies then there may be a more even footing as far as the GPGPU market is concerned.

Agreed. There is probably an NDA involved that will protect nV.

nVidia is really planning for the future right now and ATI knows it. NVidia is making sure the future is in their hands. AMD/ATI is more towards immediate gratification.

Neither company is going away anytime soon. NVidia makes a quality highspeed product with more potential in the future and AMD/ATI is currently quick to market on current technologies.
 
And still no easy and clean way to render all the 3d studio max stuff on a graphics card. The one that enables that will gain some share in the professional market. I hope this dude might change things if only a bit.

In $/performance they ARE equal or better than intel. AMD's 6-core is 1/3 the price and 3/2 the performance of intel's part, so when you normalize performance to dollar value they can't be beat.

uh, yeah, wow, if AMD/ATI release anything with a hint of nvidia technology, they'll get their pants sued off, and Manju Hegde will need an act of god to convince anyone he wasn't the source.
 
Let's look forward to AMD vs Intel in the next ten years. Radeon cards gaining physx, so it'll be like before the drivers where you could match a radeon card with an Nvidia as the physx card? Basically it's what Nvidia did to Voodoo by taking their architecture right? Only AMD was able to get a leading designer instead of false promises.
I don't think AMD will make Radeon cards with physx support. I mean everyone here probably said, "Why do we need physx when there's very few games that use it, and it causes a great performance loss in games with it enabled?"
That's the only part that is extremely funny, everyone hated Nvidia's design of Physx, then people complain about how physx can't be used with a radeon/nvidia pair, and now that radeon is capable of getting it, everyones cheering "Yay, Radeon is even greater now!"
