Too late AMD. I sold off my back up computer's R9 290's just a couple days ago due to their abysmal performance in all windows 10 releases.

It's sad on AMD's part, but at least Nvidia gave enough of a damn to release several drivers for feedback (and they worked a LOT better than AMD's).

What are you talking about? I changed my drivers 3 times since the release of The Witcher 3. Also, W10 is not even released...

Fanboy glasses sure are popular these days.

Sad that you think that, but I actually have owned AMD (or ATI) just as long as I have owned Nvidia. However, my first personal 3D graphics card was the 3DFX Voodoo 5 5500 (with the original SLI!).

For the past couple of years I have tended to run two cards to slow down the need to buy new cards. Currently two 780 Ti's, but at the same time had two R9 290's. I have more problems with the AMD cards solely due to weaker AMD crossfire support. Single card operation was typically rock solid with the R9 290.

If you think I'm a fanboi because of my experiences then you must also think water is dry.

Frame Rate Target Control (FRTC) is now available on all R7 and R9 GPUs above the R7 260, including the latest Fury GPU.
This is sooo wtf. isnt 7000 series GPU the same as all 200 series GPU? Infact the 7790 is even more advance than some of the 300 series GPU

Windows 10 isn't even out yet - you shouldn't be running it as your primary gaming system OS yet anyway. Let alone expect everything to be perfect, drivers included. Using THAT as your reasoning is just silly. If someone sold a pair of 780s or whatever for that same reason I'd tell them the same thing. Wait a month or two, then fresh install the new OS and install latest drivers.

Could just be marketing at work. Then again, just because the GCN cores themselves are the same in some cases doesn't mean there isn't some other minor difference that could affect which cards they're able to apply this to - pulling this off requires extremely fast and highly granular clock adjustments, for example.

Anyway this feature is neat but not essential. It's mainly useful in older games where you're rendering waay too many frames unnecessarily, and yet you don't want v-sync for various reasons. Heck many games allow you to cap the framerate in software, it's not quite as good as FRTC in terms of power savings but it otherwise does pretty much the same thing. Frankly most people won't even use this, even amongst those that know it exists.

I have double 290x in CF. Honestly, it took 6 days to AMD to release the CF profile for The Witcher 3, thanks to the mess created by Gamework.

The game never crashed on my system... however crash heavily on Nvidia hardware. AMD released 3 driver updates fr the game in 2 months... not Nvidia... so yeah, your rant is a simple AMD bashing.

The only problem here is that your experiences are based off an experimental operating system. It seems you skipped the disclaimer so I'll put it in layman terms - Issues occurring in beta software, especially Operating Systems, aren't representative of the final product.

Someone who would brazenly come out against AMD cards for having issues on beta software is either an idiot, fanboy, or just plain ignorant.

We don't need anymore people spreading their false entitled opinions about AMD because frankly AMD's drivers are on par or better then Nvidia's nowadays.

Well, assume what you want about my only using Windows 10 (I'm not) as the basis for responding here - it is just the latest OS that AMD Crossfire didn't work very well on for me. I also use Windows 7, 8.1, 2008 R2 and 2012 R2 and I had similar experiences on all of them except for 2008 R2 and 2012 R2 because AMD does not support those operating systems - you literally can't install official or beta graphics drivers for the R9 290.

Again, I reiterate for those that just assume that I am talking out of my ass:

In MY OWN (not your own) experience, Nvida's SLI (2 cards, not 3 or 4) work better than AMD's Crossfire (2 cards, not 3 or 4). Single card AMD solutions, and not dual GPUs as I tried two iterations with abysmal results, are pretty rock solid.

Any further comments calling me a fanboy, ignorant, or entitled will just be ignored. Because why respond to those that won't listen and insist on trying to convince me that my own decade+ experiences on this very subject are somehow false and therefor irrelevant?

Why are you posting for multiple different accounts? Stick to one, it's going to confuse some people.

by the way, you said

"Too late AMD. I sold off my back up computer's R9 290's just a couple days ago due to their abysmal performance in all windows 10 releases."

I believe "due to their abysmal performance in all windows 10 releases" means just windows 10. If you have tested it out in other operating systems, an "and" would have been present. No one here assumed anything, you failed to state a very important fact. For all we know, your just backtracking right now to try and cover up a foolish comment.

It's even more suspicious that one with technical experience would center their comment around windows 10. Anyone who's used beta software knows that you have to have a stable baseline for comparison. The comment would have something like "windows 10's crossfire performance suffers compared to windows 7". Your comment makes it seem like your sole reference was windows 10.

Alright, let me give you a explanation of why people think your being a fanboy....

You sold a card or 2..... because off performance issues.... with a BETA OS.

A beta os that has had how many build revisions in just past 2 weeks? 4? 5? possibly more... (i stop keeping track) and each of those builds can and/or have performance and/or stability issues..,..

So then why are you making actions on doing stuff based on software that isn't fully developed? Anyone in the tech field should know not to make decision on hardware based on beta software in general.

On top of that, your second comment. You mentions about your first graphic being from 3dfx. Which some people on this site probably NEVER even heard of. I have as i was just getting into building computers when 3dfx went out of business. Although his shows how long you and I been around..

Which puts your credibility of being non-fanboy in question....

Think about it.

For a guy that been messing with computers for 10+ years. Why are you basing (a) decision(s) on a software that isn't fully developed?

You should know better....

At least now people will stop complaining about a lack of WHQL driver releases.

I just messed around with the Fixed Frame Rate feature. It helps reduce screen tearing, but doesn't help eliminate it like Vsync does. Hopefully, that can be done in the future.

Wait are you the same person as arestavo? (after making my previous comment, I saw this one pop up)

If you are, you need to use 1 account.... As thor mentioned, it gets confusing if your switching up accounts for other people.

Anyways (if your the same person), Why didn't you bring this info to the table in the first place?

Being that is all that you mention in your first 2 comments, You were making it sound like your were bashing amd for windows 10 performance issue that isn't even out yet. Which is completely unjust.

(by the way, 10 isn't the latest os. That still belongs to 8.1 till it a full launch for 10 on July 29.)

it just, having that little info to go on, you made people think what your motives were without giving the full picture. Kind of like selling a whole pie.... Although you only could give a slice or 2 now with the other slices coming in later.

It makes it hard for your message to come across to people correctly. (it's the reason why i take so long to respond to a comment as im trying to be sure I'm clear with what im saying.)

Although because you came with this info so late in the game and you are even using a different account, Im in the same boat as thor ATM and cant be sure if your just back tracking out of a foolish comment or not.....

Not trying to accuse you of being a fanboy as i like staying neutral (much as possible) but your not making it easy for anyone that could for certainly say your not. Actions happen always speak louder than words.

I have a HD 7850 and windows 7 i could try it on. (dont have a 7950/70 on hand though) although i'll have to do it tomorrow..

I do know better. And, being a decent human being who wants to share my experiences hoping to help others, I do it anyways even knowing that there are people out there that will shit all over me because this is the internet.

Yes WIn10 is a technical preview, and I did (later) clarify that I have/had problems in Win7, 8.1, 2008 R2, and 2012 R2. It's a trend, and it's one that I ignore about every other generation expressly to give AMD the benefit of the doubt - I put money where my mouth is. I know, very Green Team and fanboy of me.

My Win10 comment is a a rant - a pissed off rant. A rant borne of disappointment because I HATE paying the premium that Nvidia charges Well and truly, I want AMD to be better for my needs because competition drives down prices for the consumer - but with multiple card systems I just have consistently better experiences (luck?) with Nvidia..

By the way, how does my having owned a 3DFX Voodoo 5 5500 put my non-fanboyism in question? (IIRC, 3DFX SLI and Nvidia SLI aren't exactly the same thing) Is it because Nvidia bought them out? If it clarifies anything, I hated that they were and I hate having only two high end video card manufacturers - the only good that comes from having only two is reducing the workload of developing video games (and I suppose GPGPU applications).

Cry 'Havoc!', and let slip the dogs of competition!

Let's just get this out of the way, Nvidia does have better multi-card drivers. AMD puts most of it's effort into single card aside from the recent slew of frame-pacing patches. You just can't expect AMD to compete fully on all fronts, it's tiny compared to Nvidia and even smaller compared to Intel. I hate paying an Intel and Nvidia tax when I have to but it doesn't seem that the US government really cares much about monopolies. There's limited competition in most fields nowadays.

Can someone PLEASE tell AMD that their freaking manual driver download doesn't work? It resets the first option category and will not display anything for me. I've updated Firefox, cleared SSL state, etc. It's the site!

Also, it's happening on more than one of my computers, (I own about 10 PCs, almost all of which are modern gaming PCs. I emailed their webmaster/tech support about it but the response I received was almost as if they don't understand English. They apparently have very poor reading comprehension. So if ANYONE from the site can relay a message and get them to fix it, that'd be great.
