I tried it once and it almost killed my computer. It kept restarting over and over again. I had to pray to God and Jesus to get it working again. I here many people getting a boost from the upgrade, but have they fixed the problem for the AMD machines?

why would it be any different microsoft released it and didn't change anything. only way that would happen is if you installed a beta of it on your PC. there have been several work arounds sense the problem started that have worked. try googleing them and you will find the answer

Being a fellow AMD user also affected by the past SP3 problems, also having to uninstall it and go back to SP2, however in my case I ended up doing a Repair Re-Installation of XP Pro SP2 to resolve the issues.

Heres my take on this issue, When MSFT stops offering a work around of SP3 at their Windows Update, and requires you to install SP3 period, then MSFT itself will be solidly confident it has resolved all the AMD and other issues, until then IMO stick with SP2, updates for SP2 are still being released through the Windows Update.

I'm an AMD/XP user and I simply have decided to stick with SP2. I also have random inconsistencies with SP3 and gave up on it about a month ago. You say it's stable now?

Thanks for the fix-it links, I honestly had let the matter drop.

Another fellow XP/AMD user here.

Ever since SP2 I've had the joy of experiencing the endless boot bug, but when I heard SP3 was going to be released I was ecstatic. On that faithful day I installed it in hopes of getting rid of that annoying bug but after a couple of manditory restarts due to a fresh format and installation of all the programs I use, I was struck asunder. The endless reboot bug was still around. Much cursing followed.

Anyways, I simply reverted back to the old DEP disabling method and everything works/feels the same as if I was using SP2.

Zone Alarm Internet Security Suite 8.0 though, that's an entirely different beast that needs to be put down...

I slipstreamed the amd hotfix and sp3 into xp pro. Not sure that the hotfix was necessary on a new build, but I did it anyway and all is well. Prior to this build, tried to do sp3 on a dell and it was nothing but a hassle and it is an intel machine. Me thinks there are too many variables involved from one case to the next when it comes to sp3.
