Well, that is probably because all the major releases are also targeted towards consoles and their graphic hardware is old. Anyway, that enables PC gamers to be future proof for 3 years or so from graphics point of view.
 
exciting news, with a die shrink and performance games maybe it'll take the crown from the 460 in my mind in the performance to price ratio... but i'll still be stuck with my 8600gt till i can save more for my new rig, so these might be released just in the nick of time for me to hop on em and be up to date in the pc dept(provided they are a signifigant improvment and thier value lines are released by then)... it happends bi-decadly

True.. and i hate this layover period when consoles are long in the tooth.. and pc's keep moving forward.. but the games are basically on hold.
 
I wouldn't expect miracles out of Southern Islands. Only effeciency improvements. The HD5870 was 2 billion transistors on 40nm, and the GTX480 was 3 billion transistors on 40nm. You cannot double up on the HD5870 unless you reduce size to 28nm or increase the die-size and have the fermi problem headaches. Obviously, increasing the effectiveness of Crossfire would be the best solution out of the video card. If they can make it work for all 3D games at near 100% improvement it will be drool-tastic even if it had the same performance numbers as an HD5870.

On the Ontario Processor, I am wondering about the 40nm choice instead of 32nm. Obviously its IGP will be better then anything Intel can muster. I think we have all come to expect better north bridges out out of AMD or nVidia then Intel. Aside from lack of SLI, the 790FX/890FX is a better chipset then the X58.

I believe they are talking about Intels integrated graphics with their laptops.
 
So the rumors were true and ATI is rolling out as schedule.. Impressive to say the least.. Its been hardly a year since the 5XXX series launch.. Though i doubt We'll see a 6870 or a 6850 so soon (don't want to underestimate ATI here)..

I completely thinking the same. i love to see some news.

i hope they have helped developers have a easier time developing software for these chips. it is important that developers can take advantage of the power that is in the chip not just make it. I like to hear some news about the developers side and software that can take advantage of it. i know already a lot of software does not even use what we have already. If you build it they will come. i hope.
 
just when nvidia has released the impressive GF104 architecture, here is AMD again. was about to buy the 460. guess i'll wait a little longer. hehe

WOW go amd! made a serious recovery from that shit series u called the hd 2xxx

this is what nvidia gets for riding on the 8000 series for like 2 years... it looks liek they put nothing into r&d, and were just acting like spoiled brats during that time
 
The HD2900 was actually an impressive piece of hardware that was priced too high. If you were to go back and test the HD2900 Pro verse the 8800GT it will spell a different picture then in 2006 if the 8800GT didn't already degrade from heat issues.
 
I don't want to sound like I'm against development here, but with new tech coming out faster and faster on the heals of the tech before it seems like if companies spent a bit more time developing new tech, making it better, and giving better technology with each new, slightly longer spaced out installment things would be a lot simpler. There wouldnt be the need to keep changing and adapting to new formats every couple of months. I know this won't happen because companies will make more money by spacing out their new features (like all the cell phone companies) but man, the 5000 series really hasnt been around that long and the games arent progressing at a rate that really necessitates this new series.
 
They better fix drivers before talking about 6000 series....seriously 10.4 CCC is the only set which works for ATI HD5870 Crossfire setup right, everything else is crapola...how sad is that? They can release 8000 series as far as i am concern Nvidia owns them because game run just fine on their hardware.
 
I just hope the 6000 series gets enough production to handle the demand... would hate to see another episode of inflated prices as it happened with the 5000 series

It's not just the laptops there core i3's and some core i5's have integrated graphics on the cpu
