I wish I had the confidence that you do. But after all the disappointing delays over the past few months I just can not feel that way anymore. Starting to wonder if I should have spent more money and built around an E4300 instead.

Well, knowing AMD's history of sensationalism, I think they are trying to build tension and releasing a big surprise --- or, perhaps they just can't get it to yield or perhaps the rumor mill is wrong about B0.... who knows, but considering who important this product is to their future financial health, I doubt we will see anything less the high quality.

Jack

I was reading somewhere that AMD is sitting a ton of K8 parts right now, due to weak demand + overcapacity in 1Q07 (and presumably 2Q07). Could it be that AMD is giving the market time to work off excess inventory before they glut the market with new product?

That's a neat idea in that AMD would be preying on the foolish while ramping Barcy to high volumes to meet expected demand. This is kind of the opposite of Intel, where Intel released the great product first, then moved P4 prices down aggressively in order to clear inventory. Unfortunately, AMD is pretty desparate for cash. To withhold product announcements due to ramping would be an incredibly risky path (especially when you're significantly behind technology wise). Regardless of their plan, they are betting the company on Barcy success.

AMD Inventory is up according to AMD in their conference call so we do know they are sitting on alrge stockpile of K8 parts. If they were to release Barcy specifications today what does that do the value of those K8 parts in inventory? Withholding product announcements due to ramping is an risky path but they have the 20/20 hindsight of seeing what Core2 did to Pentium prices Intel was nearly out on the street corners giving them away it's probably the best corporate decision even if we don't like it.

I think it is time that we all face it, with all these delays and NDA's Barcelona and R600 are not living up to the hype and are gonna flop.

Spot-on, Righteous brother. In fact, I've heard through my close contacts at AMD that the Barcelona will be shipping in green tinted latex body-bags, very soon.

I have to admit that I feel a lot like Logan in this. There have been so many false starts, delays, NDAs and everything else that I don't know what to expect, but I have great caution about expecting too much. Sure AMD may be playing us all, Intel included, like a fish on a line and we're going to get the sensational surprise. I'd like that in a way. But I'm tired of the line breaking just as the fish is about to be reeled in.

Yes, next week we'll find out out the graphics card and in the following weeks we'll find out about the CPUs. But its the waiting that's hard on the nerves. Right now I feel like someone crossing a stream, stepping from rock to rock, never knowing if the next rock will be solidly placed or if it will dump me in the water.

As for those people concerned about spelling mistakes, I figure that a lot of people live overseas and they struggle with the English/American language, so I try to be tolerant.

Just to play devil's advocate... one could argue that the value of AMDs parts is not being dicated by Barcy benchies... but rather Intel's price & products.

W/out benchies coming out, one thing is for sure, they will not steal existing Intel customers... 😳

If the new CPUs are compatible with exhisting AM2 boards... I'm sure many would be tempted to switch if we knew the Barcy/Agena performance (e.g. buy a cheap X2 setup today and wait till Q2-08 to upgrade).

I, myself, was very tempted to do this (just bought a e4300 rig... to be upgraded to Quad this fall). In the end, I've seen this song and dance before by execs... so I didn't want to sink so much $$$ into such an unknown.

English isn't an extremely easy language to learn. There are LOTS of exceptions to the rules- that's why you even see native speakers commonly make mistakes. Some people that make them are just not too bright, but some other mistakes are much more subtle and most people will make them.

Actually, English is much easier to learn, IMO, than French, Russian or German. I know because I tried to learn all 4 of them. A lot of native English speakers spell terribly because they spend too much time watching TV and playing computer games and very little, if at all, reading books. E-mail and cell phones with texting and Blackberries and so on are already starting to make things even worse. OMG, I just criticized playing games on a forum for extreme gamers, oops! Let the flames begin 😛 😛

I couldn't have said it better myself, although I hope to heck AMD/ATI make a major rebound.

😛 Makes me think of 300 Employees of AMD vs Intel's 6.02x 10^23 Employees(mostly because of your name)

lol this was like 100 posts ago, but the science geek inside me is laughing because he said a mole of intel employees. you in chemistry, too? lol

great post btw

You don't have to be in chemistry to know scientific notation, I've known about that stuff since I was 12, then again, I'm taking precalculus for those of you who know how old I am.

But either way, it would be a lot easier to right it in scientific notation then in full decimal form (23 zeros, that's a **** load of zeros to count to make sure you got the right amount)

write, than*

as far as the rest goes, i believe he was referring to the unit of measurement, mole (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mole_(unit)). not your use of scientific notation.

:)

I'm loving the sideline debate on the correct use of english on forums with a anglo-american twist very bizzarro.

And just to contradict my earlier post AMD scrapped the successor to the K8, so maybe thats why they're a bit behind?

Haha

grammar wars continues!

It's possible, but I wouldn't quite bet my money on it

And people, give me a break, this is a hardware forum, if you want perfect grammer, go join amdzone where either you're perfect and an amdriod, or you're instantly banned
I is cool aint I

Communicating effectively is important in all aspects of our lives. No criticism is intended here, however in order to properly learn from your mistakes, you must be informed of them (or have them royally screw you.. usually works :))

"Learn now, benefit later"

:)

oh yes, as far as the 'mole' from my previous post goes, lordaardvark2's inclusion of 'you in chemistry, too?' along with the word mole suggests he is referring to the unit of measurement used primarily, if not solely in chemistry.

sorry my comments are not aimed at you Tacos just pointing out this ramdom debate on grammar so if anything Iam9376 is being a bit perdantic (is that spelt right?)

man, I don't even know what pedantic means, but then again, I'm more hardware oriented than english

I absolutely hate English. :) I'm software ( low level optimization, development and debugging ), hardware ( development, testing and engineering ) and security ( along with data networks and telecom ).

Which is why I'm majoring* in all of them :)

but that's just me. I tend to try and present myself correctly and i firmly admit i am no English major, and certainly do not know every bit of it, and i welcome corrections.

On a note somewhat on topic: i hope K10 is great, I would love to have an affordable Penryn laptop by Q1 2008

You gots da luxury ta be able ta afford such notions ,as ya may th'o't dat americans speak an' type in proper english.

you don't need chem for scientific notation, but i don't really see how you could know the number of molecules in a mole without chemistry

HAH!

I disagree

Of course you do fanboy

Interesting, I don't know what you mean by this.... if you have an opinion other than flinging names, I would like to read it....
Weren't you accused of being an Intel fanboy last week, and now you're supposedly an AMD fanboy? Quick tell Baron! 😀

Greaper08 is the latest incarnation of the oft-banned RobsX2 and is probably objecting to the idea that the new ATI graphics cards might be any good which would somehow invalidate his almighty SLI'd GTXs (not to say that GTXs aren't awesome or anything).

Like tammy faye has a natural face and her husband is really an honest christian.

Welcome to fanboyism Jack. Lmao

She doesn't :?: :?: He isn't :?: :?: :?: What is the world coming to.

I must now console myself with some Cabernet Sauvignon. And maybe buy a X2900 XT to replace the 7800 GTX in my other computer next week. Provided that AMD/ATI doesn't land another delay upon us.

No, jack is the emulsifyer that binds water and oil together. Thats how he goes undected by the fanboi's radars, or "fandar". Speaking of moles...

Or he's just a well informed no bs kinda guy, pick your choice!

Please don't send the jumpingjackions to my house agian, last time they took my sister jill and everyone came tumbling after

I wonder why AMD even bothered showing the press Barcelona and R600 if they put them under NDA? What was the point of having these shows?

i think its all marketing - slow the growth of Intel and Nvidia cause theres aparently samples of em perhaps?
